HÀ NỘI Laws and resolutions were top of the agenda during the 20 days of the National Assembly session. Speaking at the closing ceremony yesterday, Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân said seven bills were approved and passed into law. “The NA has fulfilled all working agenda in legislation, supervision and making decisions on important national works,” she said. Laws passed included many that had raised public concerns such as the revised Law on Education, Labour Code, Law on Public Investment and Law on Alcohol Harm Prevention. Also on Friday before the meeting closed, lawmakers approved a resolution to improve efficiency implementing policies and laws on land planning, management and use in urban areas. The decision to eliminate the two herbicides from the list of plant protection chemicals was made after scientific evidence showed that the chemicals posed a danger to both humans and the environment, Plant Protection Department said. Paraquat, a chemical weed killer, and 2,4-D, an organic compound, are used to control a broad range of weeds, but leaves cereals, lawn turf, and grasslands relatively unaffected. 2,4-D can be found in numerous commercial lawn herbicide mixtures, and is widely used as a weed killer for cereal crops, pastures, and orchards. According to staff at a motorbike shop in Thủ Đức District, the preferred lamp is the xenon or high-intensity discharge (HID) version, which provides brighter headlights and increases the visibility of peripheral objects such as street signs and pedestrians, often left in the shadows by standard halogen lighting.
