On Sept. 1, with a category 5 hurricane “I have not forgotten that when it was announced that I was going to do The Apprentice, and when it then became a big hit, Helping NBC’s failed lineup greatly, @DebraMessing came up to me at an Upfront & profusely thanked me, even calling me ‘Sir,’ ” wrote the 45th president of the United States. It was a classic Trumpian ragetweet: aggrieved over a minor slight, possibly prompted by a Fox News segment, unverifiable — he has a long history of questionable tales involving someone calling him “Sir” — and nostalgic for his primetime-TV heyday. (By Thursday he was lashing Ms. Messing again, as Hurricane Dorian was lashing the Carolinas.) This sort of outburst, almost three years into his presidency, has kept people puzzling over who the “real” Mr. Trump is and how he actually thinks. Should we take him, to quote the famous precept of Trumpology, literally or seriously? Are his … [Read more...] about The Real Donald Trump Is a Character on TV

My older son knows who Iron Man is. He’s aware that, when Spider-Man removes his mask, he becomes Peter Parker. And, thanks to my husband’s tireless efforts, he can recite all the lyrics to Blitzkrieg Bop by The Ramones. But he doesn’t yet know who Donald Trump is. This is fair. I mean, the boy is only four. I grew up in the 1980s, but I didn’t know who Ronald Reagan was until I was at least nine, and even then I confused him with Val Doonican. However, given all the coverage this week’s presidential state visit will attract, my son might at least know the name Donald Trump by the end of this week – and I’m wondering how to tackle the topic. President Trump slammed former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Monday while on a trip to Japan, calling Mr. Biden “a disaster” and agreeing with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s characterization of the Democratic presidential candidate as “low IQ.” “Kim Jong-un made a statement that Joe Biden is a low IQ individual. He probably is, based on his record. I think I agree with him on that,” Mr. Trump said at a press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo. The president also heavily criticized the Obama administration’s foreign policy on North Korea and Iran, especially the Iranian nuclear deal, from which Mr. Trump withdrew the U.S. In response to a reporter’s question, Mr. Trump said he wasn’t siding with a dictator over a former U.S. vice president. “I don’t take sides as to who I’m in favor of, who I’m not,” Mr. Trump said. “But I can tell you that Joe Biden was a … [Read more...] about Donald Trump agrees with Kim Jong-un that Joe Biden is ‘low IQ’
William Temple led the calls for a walkout in 2016 when candidate Donald Trump was scheduled to address the Conservative Political Action Conference and claimed victory when Mr. Trump bailed on his speech over a dispute with CPAC organizers. He was by no means alone. Mr. Trump, who made some less-than-memorable CPAC appearances earlier this decade and earned a measly 3.5 percent support in the 2015 CPAC presidential straw poll, was by 2016 the mother of all lightning rods, with the conservative activists gathered in suburban Maryland desperately searching for an alternative presidential candidate. Three years later, all is forgiven. CPAC thrives off its connections to Mr. Trump, with White House and administration guests peppering the speaker’s list. The president’s appearances serve as the anchor of the three-day gathering. Mr. Temple now talks of Mr. Trump in terms of comparisons to Winston Churchill and Gen. George Patton. “I love the guy,” said Mr. Temple, … [Read more...] about CPAC learns to love Donald Trump
(CNN)President Donald Trump likes to eat fast food. And he doesn't like to exercise. Like, at all. "He's more enthusiastic about the diet part than the exercise part, but we're going to do both," White House physician Ronny Jackson acknowledged to reporters in a press briefing on the President's overall health earlier this week. (Jackson said Trump weighs 239 pounds and could stand to lose 10 to 15 pounds over the next year.) In an interview with Reuters on Wednesday, Trump tried to make the case that he actually exercises more than people (including Dr. Jackson) know. "I get exercise. I mean I walk, I this, I that," Trump told Reuters. "I run over to a building next door. I get more exercise than people think." So. To summarize Trump's exercise regimen: Read More Walking This That Run to building next door Unspecified number of repetitions The truth of Trump's view on exercise is more complicated than just his pretending that he "get[s] more exercise than people think."
