Nguyễn Văn Sơn, 42, a resident of the northern port city of Hải Phòng, has been banned for nine months – August 19, 2017 to May, 18, 2018 – after he shouted at and threatened a flight attendant on the VJ282 flight from HCM City-Hải Phòng in June. After the ban is lifted, for another six months, Sơn will have to undergo compulsory checks to travel by air. This was announced by Hoàng Triệu Hùng, deputy director of Hải Phòng City’s Department of Transport. The decision came into effect from Tuesday midnight. Previously, the Hải Phòng People’s Committee had banned all cars to Cát Bà with the intention of building a smoke-free, ecological tourism island. Under the ban, the Gót-Cái Viềng ferry had refused to transport cars to the island. Meanwhile, cars from Quảng Ninh Province via Tuần Châu Ferry are allowed onto the island. The city’s Department of Transport has, so far, installed signs prohibiting taxis and nine-seater commercial cars and smaller ones, including those of popular transportation networks Uber and Grab, on nine out of 13 streets. The ban is due to go into effect from Thursday. Accordingly, commercial cars will not be allowed to run between 6 and 9am and from 4.30 to 7.30pm. He was also fined VNĐ4 million (US$172) for the joke, reported Giao Thông (Transport) online newspaper. The CAAV requested domestic and foreign airlines operating in Việt Nam on domestic and international departures to not carry the passenger. The incident happened on September 3 when the man was about to board flight VJ631 from Đà Nẵng to HCM City. After detecting suspicious items during a screening, security officers asked the man to open his luggage. The man refused to comply and said there was bomb in his bag.
