Investment bank Wedbush says that the recent Apple stock sell-off creates a "golden buying opportunity" for investors, and predicts that Apple still has a $3 trillion valuation on the horizon. In a note to investors seen by AppleInsider , lead Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives says the bank has added Apple to its "Best Ideas List." He says that, in the wake of a historic December quarter for Apple, Wall Street has been expecting modest cuts to 2021 iPhone forecasts. Despite that, the analyst says recent checks in Asia are continuing to come in bullish. He continues to predict that Apple could ship upwards of 230 million iPhone units during the year. That number is higher than the current Wall Street consensus of 220 million units. Based on the current trajectory, Ives says that Apple could sell north of 240 million units — with an "eye popping" 250 million units possibly in the cards. He adds that demand in China still looks strong coming out of the Chinese New Year. … [Read more...] about Recent Apple sell-off a ‘golden buying opportunity,’ analyst says

iPhone demand weakness just ‘noise,’ outlook remains strong, analyst says
Investment bank Morgan Stanley calls recent reports of weaker iPhone demand "supply chain noise," and sees the AAPL pullback as a buying opportunity for investors. In a note to investors seen by AppleInsider , analyst Katy Huberty says she agrees with reports of iPhone 12 mini weakness, but adds that the overall demand environment remains positive for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro lineup. For one, she cites reports that Apple is cutting iPhone production to 75 million units in the first half of 2021. Although Huberty admits this has contributed to recent AAPL underperformance, she says the news is "noise rather than anything that impacts the fundamental outlook." A recent Morgan Stanley check indicated that there's between three million and five million units of total iPhone build upside risk for the first half of 2021. That's because the bank's research indicates that build orders for specific iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 models are being revised up, not … [Read more...] about iPhone demand weakness just ‘noise,’ outlook remains strong, analyst says
Morgan Stanley raises AAPL to $164 on Q1 2021 results, says Q2 outlook is strong
Morgan Stanley has raised its AAPL price target to $164 on blockbuster Apple December quarter results, and said that products like the iPhone could see continued strength in the second quarter. In a note to investors seen by AppleInsider , Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty said that some of the highlights of Apple's Q1 2021 earnings report were "faster iPhone share gains, installed base growth, and services monetization." Those factors, along with a refreshed product lineup and a continued remote education and learning environment, hint at strong double-digit growth over the next several quarters, Huberty said. Other key metrics support an overall faster growth outlook in the long term. They include an acceleration in Apple's installed base growth — from 7% to 10% — and services monetization, as well as a recovery in China. The analyst adds that Apple's gross margin of 39.8% was 160 basis points higher than she modeled. Guidance suggesting upcoming March … [Read more...] about Morgan Stanley raises AAPL to $164 on Q1 2021 results, says Q2 outlook is strong

Wedbush raises AAPL price target to $175, expects ‘eye popping’ earnings
Wedbush has raised its Apple price target to $175 on expectations that the company will announce "eye popping" iPhone shipments and earnings for the December quarter. In a note to investors seen by AppleInsider , lead analyst Daniel Ives writes that recent Wedbush checks of Apple's supply give indicate that the " iPhone 12 supercycle hype has become a reality." The analyst believes that the Apple supply chain clocked iPhone builds in the low- to mid-90 millions. That's roughly a 35% increase from Ives' initial iPhone build forecast from 2020. China slams US ’blackmailing’ as Trump issues new trade threat
US President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 10 per cent tariff on US$200 billion of Chinese goods. — AFP/VNS Photo Viet Nam News BEIJING/WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump threatened to impose a 10 per cent tariff on US$200 billion of Chinese goods and Beijing warned it would retaliate, in a rapid escalation of the trade conflict between the world’s two biggest economies. Trump’s latest move, as Washington fights trade battles on several fronts, was unexpectedly swift and sharp. It was retaliation, he said, for China’s decision to raise tariffs on $50 billion in US goods, which came after Trump announced similar tariffs on Chinese goods on Friday. “After the legal process is complete, these tariffs will go into effect if China refuses to change its practices, and also if it insists on going forward with the new tariffs that it has recently announced,” Trump said in a statement on Monday. The comments sent global stock markets skidding and weakened both the … [Read more...] about China slams US ’blackmailing’ as Trump issues new trade threat

Few of the informal labourers in the country are covered by social insurance. — VNS Photo Truong Vi HA NOI (VNS) — Just five per cent of informal labourers across Viet Nam are covered by social insurance, posing a potential risk that millions of workers will be without any pension to support their later years. They can be farmers, seasonal workers, home helpers, or street vendors. Those workers contributed more than 32 per cent to the nation's annual GDP, yet about 35 million of those will not have a pension when they get older and are incapable of working anymore. The numbers were released yesterday in a workshop held by the Red Organisation about the challenges in realising the national target of 50 per cent of the … [Read more...] about Unofficial workers lack social insurance
