Crime data shows that roughly 2,600 migrants will be murdered and roughly 103,000 will be raped or assaulted during their 2019 migration to the United States, says an estimate prepared by Steven Kopits, president of Princeton Policy Advisors. “We estimate 80,000 migrant women were raped or coerced into sex during 2018, rising to 103,000 on higher migrant numbers in 2019,” said a statement from Kopits, whose predictions of migration increases been repeatedly validated by the eventual numbers. “These are persons … Incidents could be up to 50% higher.”Alongside the murder and rapes, Kopits predicted 34,000 kidnappings, 21,000 cases of forced labor trafficking, and 106,000 robberies during 2019. Kopits argues that the massive level of brutality could be sharply reduced if the United States expanded the current blue-collar guest workers programs. For example, the H-2B program brings in roughly 80,000 guest workers from … [Read more...] about Researchers: 103,000 Migrant Women Will Be Sexually Assaulted on Way to U.S. This Year

(CNN)"Glee" was on a regularly scheduled hiatus in 2013 when one of its young stars, Cory Monteith, died of an accidental overdose. The cast and crew began production on the show's fifth season just weeks later, first filming two previously written episodes as planned and then a special episode that was a moving tribute to the 31-year-old actor, who played Finn Hudson. At the time, showrunner Ryan Murphy, then a veteran of series like "Nip/Tuck" and "Popular," admitted he was in "uncharted water." Monteith played not just a major character on the uber-buzzy teen drama but one half of the show's main couple, opposite Lea Michele. "What I loved about it is when you write something like that [tribute special], there's no right way to do it," Murphy later reflected. On that point, Murphy remains, indeed, correct. Most people say “I’m sorry” many times a day for a host of trivial affronts – accidentally bumping into someone or failing to hold open a door. These apologies are easy and usually readily accepted, often with a response like, “No problem.” But when “I’m sorry” are the words needed to right truly hurtful words, acts or inaction, they can be the hardest ones to utter. And even when an apology is offered with the best of intentions, it can be seriously undermined by the way in which it is worded. Instead of eradicating the emotional pain the affront caused, a poorly worded apology can result in lasting anger and antagonism, and undermine an important relationship. I admit to a lifetime of challenges when it comes to apologizing, especially when I thought I was right or misunderstood or that the offended party was being overly sensitive. But I recently discovered that the need for an apology is less about me than the person who, for … [Read more...] about The Right Way to Say ‘I’m Sorry’
Not long after The New York Times reported on allegations of abusive behavior by Ryan Adams on Wednesday, the singer-songwriter issued an apology on Twitter, as well as a denial. Mr. Adams, 44, was accused of manipulating women and engaging in sexually explicit communication with a minor. In his tweet, he said that he was “not a perfect man” and had made many mistakes. “To anyone I have ever hurt, however unintentionally, I apologize deeply and unreservedly,” he wrote. “But the picture that this article paints is upsettingly inaccurate. Some of its details are misrepresented; some are exaggerated; some are outright false. I would never have inappropriate interactions with someone I thought was underage. Period.” On social media, the responses to Mr. Adams’s statement were largely negative, with some saying that any apology followed by the word “but” was disingenuous. Others disputed his statement by referring to a text he reportedly … [Read more...] about After an ‘Ambiguous’ Apology From Ryan Adams, What’s the Right Way to Say Sorry?
Prost, gesondheid, salute, skál, sláinte, cheers. There are as many ways to raise a glass and collectively celebrate as there are ways to say it. For centuries humans have been celebrating special occasions with alcoholic beverages. Just mentioning cocktails or bubbly gets me in the mood to par-tee. There’s nothing like the holidays for a great reason to serve special cocktails. Every holiday season my neighborhood block has an event called “Strolling the Ave.” Three homes host an "open house" for the neighbors in their home. We spend about 45 minutes at each house eating delectable goodies and drinking holiday beverages then collectively walk to the next home. It’s a great way to connect in the cold months. Having a lot of people over can be intimidating and providing food and beverages can be expensive, especially alcoholic drinks. Instead of trying to have a fully stocked bar, I found it works best to have some red and … [Read more...] about Three delicious ways to say ‘cheers’ this holiday season
