PM to chat with the public online for the first time (25-01-2007) HA NOI — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will spend two and a half hours chatting with the public during an online forum on February 9. It’s the first time a Vietnamese Prime Minister will be involved in an online chat with members of the public. Editor in chief of Bao Dien Tu Dang Cong San Viet Nam (the on-line newspaper of the Viet Nam Communist Party), Dao Duy Quat, said the Prime Minister would address a wide range of issues. "I believe the Prime Minister would answer all questions raised by the people," said Quat at a press conference to announce the event. HN People’s Procuracy issues indictment in $9-million scam case

Trịnh Anh Minh, director and CEO of the company, was prosecuted on grounds of “appropriating property through swindling valued at VNĐ500 million (some US$22,000) or more” as per Việt Nam Penal Code, Article 139, Paragraph 4. This criminal offense, considered “causing serious consequences,” attracts “imprisonment between 12 and 20 years, life imprisonment or capital punishment.” From May 2014 to October 2015, Trịnh Anh Minh signed investment contracts with 263 people, cheating them of VNĐ230 billion ($10.1 million). Six arrested for alleged plot to overthrowing gov’t

Nguyễn Văn Đài. — Photo vietnamnet.vn HÀ NỘI — The Investigation Security Agency under the Ministry of Public Security yesterday decided to prosecute six people charged with planning to overthrow the administration in Hà Nội and some other localities. The agency commenced legal proceedings against 48-year-old Nguyễn Văn Đài, the alleged instigator and Lê Thu Hà, 35, both residing in Hà Nội’s Hai Bà Trưng District. Four other suspects who have been arrested for investigation are Phạm Văn Trội, 45, from Chương Dương Commune, Thường Tín District; Nguyễn Trung Tôn, 45, from Quảng Xương District of Thanh Hóa Province and Trương Minh Đức, 57, and Nguyễn Bắc Truyển, 49, both from HCM City. Police prosecute accomplice in Phạm Công Danh case

Phạm Công Danh at a trial. — Photo vietnamnet.vn Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — The police are stepping up their investigation into the Phạm Công Danh case, announcing Tuesday t hat they were prosecuting a woman for her alleged involvement in the biggest economic case in Việt Nam’s history. Forty three-year-old Phạm Thị Trang from HCM City was accused of deliberate breaches in economic management causing serious consequences, according to Article 165 of the Penal Code. The Investigation Department of the Ministry of Public Security also conducted a search at Trang’s residence at the Sài Gòn Pearl high-end apartment complex. Both the prosecution and the search warrant were approved by the Supreme People’s Procuracy. Death penalty mooted in Ocean Bank case

Hà Nội’s People’s Procuracy will seek the death penalty in the case against Nguyễn Xuân Sơn, former director general of Ocean Bank, and life in prison for Hà Văn Thắm, former chairman of the Board of Directors of the bank, it announced on Thursday. — Photo vietnamnet.vn HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội’s People’s Procuracy will seek the death penalty in the case against Nguyễn Xuân Sơn, former director general of Ocean Bank, and life in prison for Hà Văn Thắm, former chairman of the Board of Directors of the bank, it announced on Thursday.
