According to the State Bank of Vietnam, as of the third quarter of last year, 147.3 million bank cards had been issued, an increase of 20 million cards year-on-year. Of these, there had been only 4.6 million credit cards conducting transactions valued at nearly VND50 trillion, a 50% surge over the one year-ago period. PM tells Vietnamese citizens to evacuate war-torn Lebanon (25-07-2006) HA NOI — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has instructed the Foreign Ministry to help the estimated 300 Vietnamese citizens now in Lebanon to leave the war-ravaged country. Most of the stranded Vietnamese are employed as domestic servants. Others work in restaurants and hotels. The prime minister’s instruction - made by telegram - requires the ministry to ensure that its diplomats in Cairo list the Vietnamese known to be in Lebanon and help them leave combat zones as quickly as possible. The help should include assistance with consular procedures and money if necessary. The Egyptian-based diplomats are also required to monitor activity in Lebanon and seek to work with such international agencies as the International Organisation for Migration and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in any evacuations.
