Deputies critical of latest draft Law on Residency (21-10-2006) HA NOI — The draft Law on Residency favours State administrative control of residents over people’s rights to residential freedom, said many National Assembly deputies during debate yesterday. National Assembly Legal Committee chairman Vu Duc Khien reported to deputies on adjustment to the draft law during yesterday’s National Assembly meeting. Regular and temporary residential registration were regulated in detail in the draft law. Many deputies responded to his report that the draft Law on Residency should concretely state in its provisions the rights of residential freedom guaranteed to citizens in the constitution. Thăng, born in 1960, is being investigated for “violating regulations on investment in construction, causing serious consequences” under Article 224 of the Penal Code. The same day, the Ministry of Public Security also launched criminal proceedings against and searched the house of Trần Thị Bình , former deputy director general of PetroVietnam, on the same charges.
