The city’s Centre for Preventive Medicine could meet only one-thirtieth of the total demand for 91,000 vaccination doses. The registration process on the centre’s website at ytdphanoi.gov.vn -- during the third phase of the serviced vaccination programme this year -- started at 9am on Thursday. The system was soon overloaded with more than 91,000 logins, and automatically shut down after one hour and 28 minutes of recording registrations for the available 3,080 doses. The vaccines comprised 1,880 doses held over from the second phase last month and 1,200 new doses. Those who failed to register their children for the vaccination this time will have to wait for the next registration period. Nguyễn Văn Sơn, vice chairman of the city People’s Committee, said they started planning these moves last July and would start executing them this month. October 11, 2018 by vietnamnews.vn

Illustration by Đàm Minh Trí Viet Nam News by Mai Hiên HÀ NỘI – Nguyễn Thu Hương, a resident of Hà Nội’s Đống Đa district, was worried when she saw street vendors preparing food without gloves. She complained several times but was repeatedly ignored. With a strange look, one person asked, “if you are worried about food safety, why do you still eat street food?” A new Government degree mandating higher fines for food safety violations may ease Hương’s concerns. Set to take effect on October 20, the decree will set fines at up to VNĐ200 million (US$5,840) or seven times higher than the value of the goods. These rates are 3.5 times higher than those set by a 2013 decree. Food sellers found to use plant and animal products that fail to meet veterinary hygiene and quarantine inspection requirements will be fined between VNĐ20 million and 40 million ($854-1,709). Fines between VNĐ40 million and 50 million ($1,709-2,130) will be levied on those who use banned chemicals … [Read more...] about Public awareness key to making food safety fines effective

Transport minister takes hits during NA’s grill

June 4, 2018 by vietnamnews.vn

Minister of Transport Nguyễn Văn Thể takes the floor during this morning NA’s Q&A sessions. — VNA/VNS Photo Doãn Tấn Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Over 2.8 million vehicles across the country are expected to be installed with chips that allow them to cross toll stations without having to stop by the end of 2018, said Minister of Transport Nguyễn Văn Thể during a Q&A session with lawmakers in Hà Nội this morning during a National Assembly meeting. The automatic toll collecting chips are believed to be the answer to the country’s numerous issues regarding its Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) projects, which have been criticised for being poorly planned and lacking in transparency. It will be, at the very least, a difficult order for the transport ministry to meet, as only 500,000 vehicles are equipped with the chips at the moment, according to its own report. Those who were expecting a heated grilling session for the transport minister were not disappointed. Numerous questions … [Read more...] about Transport minister takes hits during NA’s grill
