HCM City tightens food hygiene in school lunches

Authorities inspect an animal food dsitributor in HCM City. — VNA/VNS Photo HCM CITY – The main causes of increased risk of school-food poisoning in HCM City are diverse but uncontrolled food sources, the increased number of school-food producers and the many unlicensed small-scale production workshops, experts have warned. In mid March, tens of students of Trần Quang Khải Primary School in District 1 were hospitalised due to school-food poisoning after having lunch provided by the city-based Tâm Tâm Ltd. Company. HCM City’s Food Hygiene and Safety Department later investigated the company and discovered many food safety-related violations, fining it VND48 million. Việt Nam ranks third at international science fair

The delegates were welcomed home on Wednesday by the Ministry of Education and Training in Hà Nội. The Vietnamese team bagged five awards, including third prize for a prosthetics arm project by Phạm Huy, an 11th grader from a high school in the central province of Quảng Trị. The other awards were four fourth prizes in system software, chemistry and embedded software. Intel ISEF is the largest international pre-college science competition, attracting some 1,800 high school students from around the world every year to compete in 22 categories. Capital ranks first in national skill test 2018

The results were announced on Sunday evening by the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), which organised the test in collaboration with five related ministries. The skill test was organised from May 13-20 with 520 contestants from 56 provinces and cities, who expressed their skills in six different fields. After the test, the organisers awarded 63 gold medals, 15 silver medals, 71 bronze medals and 154 consolation prizes to the contestants. There is no test during middle or end of the school-year, no ranks for children or learning fixed subjects. “Instead, students are provided with the best studying environment, which can mobilise all their capabilities.” Schools are given authority to design learning programmes suitable for each individual based on the national system.
