The criminal case against the undercover video journalists who exposed the fetal tissue trafficking activity of Planned Parenthood and its allies in the biomedical procurement industry is headed to trial.Former California Attorney General Kamala Harris, now a U.S. senator and former 2020 presidential candidate, initiated the case against David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt of Center for Medical Progress. When Harris was elected to the U.S. Senate, her successor, current Attorney General Xavier Becerra, continued the case. The undercover citizen journalists were charged with 15 felony counts, 14 counts of illegal recording of confidential conversations and one count of conspiracy. The case makes them the first undercover journalists to be criminally prosecuted in the history of the state of California. On Friday, Judge Christopher Hite of San Francisco Superior Court announced nine of the felony charges had sufficient evidence to proceed to trial. Medicare for All, a middle-class tax cut for others. Photo: Elizabeth Frantz/Bloomberg via Getty Images Kamala Harris’s position on Medicare for All has never made much sense. From the dawn of her campaign, the California senator has made a $2 trillion middle-class tax cut her signature economic policy. At the first Democratic primary debate, Harris confirmed that passing this “middle-class and working families tax cut” would be her top legislative priority. And yet, the Democratic 2020 hopeful simultaneously insisted that she supported Bernie Sanders’s Medicare for All plan, a policy that would move virtually all health-care spending in the U.S. onto the federal government’s books, and finance the resulting $3.2 trillion increase in annual spending with broad-based tax increases. Which is to say: If you took Harris at her word, her legislative plan for 2021 would be to first pass a law massively cutting middle-class taxes, and then pass a second law … [Read more...] about Kamala Harris’s Medicare for All Plan Makes No Sense
California Democratic Senator Kamala Harris said she would work to scrap the Senate filibuster as president if Republicans refuse to work with Democrats to pass the Green New Deal. The Democratic 2020 presidential candidate made the comments during a CNN town hall Wednesday evening, stating that in the event she won the presidency and Senate Republicans refused to work with Democrats to pass the legislation, eliminating the 60 vote requirement for ending Senate debate would be an avenue to pursue.“If [Republicans] fail to act, as president of the United States, I am prepared to get rid of the filibuster to pass a Green New Deal,” she said to audience applause. If Republicans continue to block progress, I’ll get rid of the filibuster to pass a Green New Deal. #ClimateTownHall — Kamala Harris (@KamalaHarris) September 4, 2019 Calling the fight for the Green New Deal one “against powerful interests,” Harris said Congressional Republicans should … [Read more...] about Kamala Harris Would Eliminate Senate Filibuster To Pass Green New Deal
Kamala Harris has dropped out of the battle for the Democratic nomination in the 2020 US presidential election.Despite being several points ahead in the polls of several of her rivals, she told supporters in a letter, in a subtle dig towards at least two of the other Democratic nomination candidates, that she was not a billionaire and did not have the personal funds to keep the campaign going. Her dropping out will sadden those who thought her entry into the race in January provided youth and diversity to the list of those vying to take on Donald Trump. With just over a month before the first of the primaries and caucuses get underway, Ms Harris' departure leaves 16 Democrats running for the nomination.Sky News looks at who President Donald Trump could be fighting against in the 2020 presidential election. The man, Tyrone Harris, was critically wounded and is being treated in hospital, police said. They said St. Louis County prosecutors charged Harris, whose bond was set at $250,000, on four counts, including "assault on law enforcement" and shooting at a motor vehicle. On a day of civil disobedience called by activists in Missouri on Monday, several people were arrested after jumping barricades at a courthouse in St. Louis, news video reports showed. Clergy and civil rights groups led the rally of more than 100 people through city streets, shouting, "This is what democracy looks like" and "Black lives matter." Senator Kamala Harris, who dropped out of the 2020 Democratic presidential race this week, was brutal in her takedown of former vice president Joe Biden at the first debate among the party’s presidential aspirants in June. But instead of positioning herself as “the only black person on this stage”, what if she had called herself the only biracial among the 20 candidates in the race?As the daughter of a woman from Chennai in India and a black man from Jamaica, she would have owned that space, which is a key emerging American demographic group. Biracial, or multiracial Americans, a survey by the Pew Research Centre noted in 2015, are “young, proud, tolerant and growing at a rate three times as fast as the population as a whole”.Harris is one of them, and so is former President Barack Obama, who was born to a white American woman from Kansas and a black man from Kenya. But he never called himself biracial. “I identify as … [Read more...] about Kamala should embrace her biracial identity
