If terrorists attack us during this shutdown because of a weakened FBI, the buck will stop with Donald Trump and America will never forgive him. Now, it’s getting real. We know what the shutdown is doing to airport security and of the growing inability of Transportation Security Administration agents to even afford to get to work. The consequences for air travel are obvious. Sooner or later, if the shutdown continues, commercial aviation will grind to a halt. FBI agents have been suffering more silently, but more severely. Until this week. On Tuesday, the FBI Agents Association released a 72-page report outlining some of the unclassified ways that the shutdown has made it difficult or impossible for them to do their jobs. We can only guess at the problems the FBI is having that cannot be publicly disclosed. The report makes for some chilling reading. The FBI’s counterterrorism activities are suffering badly. One agent quoted in the report warns, “The shutdown … [Read more...] about Donald Trump’s government shutdown cripples FBI, raises terrorism risk

Lara Trump: Government shutdown inflicts ‘little bit of pain’ on workers but worth it
WASHINGTON – The president's daughter-in-law is facing criticism after saying the ongoing partial government shutdown may have inflicted a "little bit of pain" on federal employees but is worth it in the fight for a wall along the southern border. In an interview with Bold TV this week, Lara Trump, who works as a campaign adviser, said while the month-long government shutdown has incited a "little bit of pain" but was bigger than anyone and for the good of the country. "Listen, it's not fair to you and we all get that but this is so much bigger than any one person," said Trump, who is married to the president's son, Eric. "It is a little bit of pain but it's going to be for the future of our country." Her message to the 800,000 federal workers who aren't being paid, due to an impasse over President Donald Trump's demand for $5.7 billion to construct a border wall, wasn't received well by those online. Many government employees are continuing … [Read more...] about Lara Trump: Government shutdown inflicts ‘little bit of pain’ on workers but worth it
Trump’s government shutdown betrays workers, especially the lowest paid: Sherrod Brown
The greatest pain from the president’s temper tantrum will fall on the lowest wage workers who are invisible to him — employees of private contractors. As usual, President Donald Trump and far too many in Congress — self-professed Christians all — ignore the wisdom of Matthew 25: When did we ever see you hungry and not feed you? When did we ever see you sick and not help? This government shutdown is the latest example of how President Trump has overlooked, ignored and betrayed American workers. Nearly 800,000 federal employees are going without a paycheck. President Trump said his shutdown has a “higher purpose than next week's pay.” Tell that to the Transportation Security Administration agents I met in Cleveland, with children to feed and rent coming due. But perhaps the greatest pain from the president’s temper tantrum will fall on the lowest wage workers who are invisible to this president. 6 things to know about the federal government shutdown in Tennessee
The federal government remains partially shutdown as Democrats in Congress continue a standoff with the White House over billions of dollars in funding for a southern border wall. The shutdown has been in effect since Dec. 22 and may continue well into this month as Democrats regain control of the House of Representatives on Thursday. Here are a few things to know about Tennessee as the shutdown continues. Trump said federal workers are all Democrats. In Tennessee, is that true? On Dec. 27, President Donald Trump asserted, without evidence, on Twitter that most of the federal employees who are not being paid during the ongoing government shutdown are Democrats. Such a claim is unable to be substantiated in Tennessee, because it is one of many states that do not have party registration. In total, 31 states allow voters to register by party, according to Rasmussen Reports, a New Jersey-based polling company. Of the four states — California, Texas, … [Read more...] about 6 things to know about the federal government shutdown in Tennessee
How a partial government shutdown could affect your health: ‘It’s narrow’
(CNN)With a holiday government shutdown looming in the United States, there could be an impact not just on government workers but on you and public health -- but that impact is expected to be small. At midnight Friday, funding is set to expire for several key federal agencies, including the Departments of Homeland Security, Justice, Interior, State and Housing and Urban Development. There's no guarantee that lawmakers can come up with a plan that President Donald Trump will support to extend the rapidly approaching deadline. Meanwhile, a partial government shutdown appears to be likely. How a partial government shutdown could play out: By the numbers An administration official told CNN that "If a lapse in appropriations were to take place, a majority of [Homeland Security] activities would continue. For instance, those protecting our borders with the customs and Border Patrol will continue to do so. "Additionally, activities that are supported by multi-year funding, such as … [Read more...] about How a partial government shutdown could affect your health: ‘It’s narrow’
