HÀ NỘI (VNS) – Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc has asked the northern Hòa Bình Province Police to find out the cause of an accident that killed three people in Mai Châu District. In an urgent message sent late on Monday, the deputy PM said the police should find out the cause of a collision between a coach and an oil truck yesterday afternoon on a stretch of National Highway 6, which also left 26 people injured. The accident occurred when the oil truck was travelling from Hà Nội to Hòa Bình and the 24-seater coach was going from Điện Biên to Hà Nội. The coach was of the ‘Đức Thắng’ company. Compared to the same period last year, the number of traffic accidents, deaths and injuries fell by 14.8 per cent, 6.5 per cent and 17.7 per cent, respectively, the committee said on Tuesday. According to the report, the transport police also fined more than 909,000 vehicles for violating laws on the roads, collecting VNĐ608 billion (US$27 million). Fines were issued in 505 cases for violating railway safety, contributing more than VNĐ124 million ($5,500) to the state budget, and 39,400 vehicles were fined a total of VNĐ22 billion ($998,000) for breaking laws on the waterways.
