In an official letter issued by the Government Office on March 6, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung asked the Ministry of Transport, in cooperation with the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises, to instruct ACV in completing the prefeasibility study of the project in a timely manner. Flooding continues to threaten Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport
HCM CITY – Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport in HCM City is still at risk of being flooded during the rainy season, as all of the drainage canals are blocked with trash. The latest report by the HCM City’s Steering Centre of the Urban Flood Control Programme showed that the drainage system of the airport has been blocked by trash both inside and outside the airport. Specifically, inside the airport, the 1,000mm drain from the Tân Sơn Nhất Petroleum Joint Stock Company to Nhật Bản Canal was partially blocked by construction waste. Some of the open ditches also showed signs of degradation. The drainage system inside the airport was considered to be incomplete and incomprehensive, and failed to effectively connect to the drainage system outside the airport. The plan, which includes a call for investors, was submitted by the ministry yesterday to PM Nguyễn Xuân Phúc . Work on a reservoir with a state-of-the-art pumping system, which will combat flooding in the airport area, must begin within this year and be completed before 2019, the ministry said in its report. The steel overpass, which received total funding of VND504 billion, has three branches. The first arm connects Hoang Minh Giam Street with Nguyen Thai Son Street and is 362 meters long. Over the past five years, some major airports such as Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai and Danang have received funding for repairs and upgrades to meet the rising air travel demand. However, the investment has been trivial given the rapid rise of air passengers. Statistics from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) show that Vietnam is operating 22 airports with a combined capacity of 90.4 million passengers per year, but last year, some 103 million passengers went through those airports.
