TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Police investigating a single-car accident found marijuana and hollow point bullets in an abandoned vehicle registered to Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver DeSean Jackson. Officers responding to a crash last Sunday night at International Plaza shopping mall found a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado that appeared to have left the roadway and struck a tree. A Tampa police incident summary said officers discovered 6.3 grams of marijuana, as well as two .38 caliber hollow point bullets inside the vehicle. No arrests have been made, and the report said “it is unclear who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.” The Bucs played at Carolina earlier Sunday. Jackson, who signed a three-year, $33.5 million contract in free agency last winter, was inactive for the game with an ankle injury. “We are aware of a one-car accident involving a vehicle registered to DeSean Jackson on the night of Dec. 24,” Bucs general manager Jason Licht said in a statement … [Read more...] about Police probe crash of vehicle registered to NFL player
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Sean Payton risked everything to start the second half of Super Bowl 44. The New Orleans Saints made sure his big bet paid off. Instead of giving the ball back to Peyton Manning with a chance to open up a double-digit lead that Sunday, the other Payton instructed Thomas Morstead to try an onside kick — one of the most daring plays in Super Bowl history. The Saints executed it perfectly, giving them enough momentum to capture their first world championship. “I wasn’t too worried,” Morstead said after New Orleans’ 31-17 victory. “Just terrified.” The 23-year-old rookie spent most of that season playing the low-key role of punter and kickoff specialist. But when Payton walked over to Morstead at halftime and explained the decision, Morstead knew he would likely be remembered as the guy who changed the game one way or the other. Colts receiver Hank Baskett helped write the next chapter. As he scooted up the field, the ball … [Read more...] about NFL at 100: Payton beats Peyton with risky Super Bowl gamble
The Houston Texans have won the AFC South three times in coach Bill O’Brien’s five seasons, and they have led or shared the divisional lead all but three weeks this season. Adding a fourth title to that list means going through the franchise the Texans replaced in Houston. The Tennessee Titans last won the AFC South back in 2008 and haven’t swept the Houston Texans since 2007. But the Titans and second-year coach Mike Vrabel, who got his NFL coaching start in Houston working with linebackers for O’Brien in 2014, has won four straight and six of seven since quarterback Marcus Mariota was benched for Ryan Tannehill. That combination helped the Titans (8-5) climb from the bottom of the AFC South midway through the season into a tie with the Texans (8-5). Tennessee hosts Houston on Sunday in the first of two games between the rivals in the final three weeks of the schedule. “The challenge is getting ready for them the first time,” Titans coach Mike … [Read more...] about NFL This Week: Round 1 of Texans-Titans’ AFC South showdown
