The Tây Ninh Province People’s Court on Tuesday sentenced Nguyễn Đắc Tuyên, 41, of Hà Nội to 16 years in jail. Two other men, who conspired with him and abetted him in the criminal acts, Phùng Viết Đông, 38, and Phùng Tuấn Anh, 29, got 14 years apiece. They were charged with smuggling and forging seals and documents of official agencies. The 46-year-old man, who lives in Phước Lý Commune, has been put under temporary detention. In a video clip that was recently circulated on social media, the young girl told a woman about getting raped and hit multiple times by her father. According to the girl, her father threatened her not to talk about the incident to anyone. After collecting witness testimonies and conducting a medical examination of the girl, the police decided to arrest the man. The case is under further investigation. Between 2014 and 2016, more than 4,100 cases of sexual violence against children were reported, with girls accounting for more than 80 per cent of 4,140 child victims, according to a report from the Police Department of Criminal Investigation of Social Order under the Ministry of Public Security. In the first six months of the year, a total of 696 cases of sexual violence against children were reported, with 710 victims. The brick wall, which was 31 meters long and over 10 meters high, collapsed while dozens of workers were cement-rendering it, trapping them under the debris.
