NA mulls sports, job training laws (23-09-2006) HA NOI – The sensitive issue of betting on sporting matches was debated yesterday at a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee. The issue was raised by NA deputy Vu Mao, director of the NA Committee for External Relations and Le Quang Binh, head of the NA’s Ombudsman Committee during discussions about the drafts Law on Sport and Law on Vocational Training. The pair questioned why betting in sports was not mentioned in the draft Law on Sports. The two NA deputies said that if the Government allowed sports betting, the draft law should include regulations on the matter. Minister and Director of the National Sports and Physical Training Committee Nguyen Danh Thai, said his committee had proposed a plan to the Government for betting in sports. Deputy PM welcomes Romanian sports official (27-09-2006) HA NOI — Co-operation in sports has strengthened the friendship bonds between Viet Nam and Romania, said Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung. Speaking with Romanian President of the National Agency for Sports, Florian Gheorghe, at a reception in Ha Noi yesterday, Hung welcomed Gheorghe’s visit and said he hoped that bilateral sports activities would be expanded. Gheorghe informed the deputy prime minister of the working results with the National Sports and Physical Training Committee. The two sides agreed to strengthen co-operation, concentrating on issues such as the organisation of sports activities, training specialists in sports medicine, and facility infrastructure. Four hundred and fifty-seven deputies voted to approve the bill, accounting for 94.46 per cent of those present in the assembly hall, while only one voted against it. Two deputies abstained. The law will go into effect on January 1, 2019. With this law, Việt Nam legalises sports betting and considers it a conditional business in the country. Sports betting is under the strict control of State bodies and must ensure transparency, objectivity and honesty, as well as ensure the rights and obligations of involved parties. Inspection launched into land use at Mỹ Đình Sports Complex

According to a recent report by the State Audit Office of Việt Nam, Mỹ Đình National Sports Complex leased land without authorities’ approval. The complex did not hold auctions or disclose prices for leased spaces, Thanh niên (Young people) newspaper reported. Some short-term land lease contracts for three months, six months or a year were actually long-term contracts as the complex signed different deals with the same company. This allowed companies to build offices and warehouses on leased land which was incommensurate with contract provisions. Sports contest helps autistic children have fun

Participation in physical activities is not easy for such children because of their conditions. Many received assistance from their parents and volunteers to help take part in the competition.
