The ballad of James Bond has just taken its latest twist. Daniel Craig, by his own admission, would “rather slash his wrists” than play 007 again. He’s seemingly resisting intergalactic amounts of money to sign on for more films. To the outsider, it appears Craig is doing everything in his power to distance himself from the role. That notion was reinforced last weekend, when the trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s comeback movie, Logan Lucky, was unveiled. Craig features in it, playing a tattooed, bleach-blond, high camp criminal named Joe Bang, whose voice seems to be modelled on Zach Galifianakis’ Seth character. Joe Bang is a far cry from James Bond – he speaks in actual sentences, for a start – but it may not be far enough. Sean Connery, to truly escape Bond, had to dress up in a mankini to play an uncivilised “Exterminator” who flies around in a giant stone head in Zardoz. Forget bleaching his hair – that’s the level of … [Read more...] about Breaking the Bond: six roles to distance Daniel Craig from 007
A transgender Bond would shake, not stir things up. With Daniel Craig’s tenure as the famed superspy coming to a close, actor Dominic West floated the idea of “a transgender Bond” in a Sunday Times interview this week, saying that it “would be cool.” That suggestion inspired the usual round of outrage, with cries of political correctness gone too far, but transgender male actors tell The Daily Beast that such a casting would be a breakthrough moment for LGBT media representation. “It would tell me that trans men were being seen as men, legitimate and worthy of casting in this role,” Transparent star Ian Harvie told The Daily Beast. “ Harvie has long daydreamed of playing 007, so getting the chance to don the tuxedo—or to watch one of his peers do it—would be personally meaningful. “As someone who has been told over and over again through social messaging (and sometimes directly to my face) that I am someone who is … [Read more...] about Trans Actors: We Would Be Proud To Play a Trans James Bond

The ADB has sought exemption from getting domestic credit rating and instead would prefer to use its 'AAA' international rating by the three international credit rating agencies. PHOTO: FILE ISLAMABAD: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has asked Pakistan for immunity from regulatory approvals and tax exemptions for Pak rupee-denominated bonds that the regional lender wants to float to raise money for public and private-sector projects from the domestic market. The Manila-based lending agency has sought these concessions to launch local currency bonds, according to government sources. The ADB is eyeing to expand its footprint in Pakistan’s capital markets, but without fulfilling regulatory requirements. It aims to provide some of the services that are currently extended by commercial banks, including lending for private-sector projects. Sources said that in order to fulfill the ADB’s demands, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Securities and Exchange … [Read more...] about ADB seeks tax break for Pak rupee bonds
