The document was signed Friday in Brussels by Planning and Investment Deputy Minister Cao Viet Sinh and Belgian Development Co-operation Minister Armand De Decker. It was inked during the fifth Viet Nam-Belgium Joint Committee session, which was aimed at reviewing bilateral ties and formulating future development strategies. In the 2007-2020 plan, Belgium will provide 32 million euros in aid that will concentrate on helping Viet Nam develop its human resources. Government In Action (22-02-2007) Salt production plans approved Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved Salt Production and Development Schemes to 2010 and 2020, calling for salt producers to bring into full play local natural conditions and apply advanced technology to raise productivity and effectiveness. Developing salt production must be in connection with rural development, restructuring of labour and job creation, Dung said. The major goals of the schemes are to ensure sustainable development of salt production, meet demands for salt for supporting living and industry, gradually reducing imports and increasing exports of salt and products made of salt, stably increase employment and improve the living standards of people who make a living from salt production. The total salt production area nationwide is expected to stand at 14,500ha, including 6,000ha of industrial sites, and productivity is projected to reach 1.5 million tonnes by 2010. PM okays plans to fight capital’s traffic congestion
HA NOI — Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung approved proposals to fight traffic congestion in Ha Noi at a meeting between the Government and municipal leaders yesterday. They agreed on a number of measures including the introduction of congestion charges in certain areas and increases in motor vehicle registration and parking fees. Other proposals to incorporate major transport projects such as urban railways, flyovers and a metro into national targeted programmes, and raise fines against traffic law violations also received a nod from the Government head. To contain the flow of people to the city centre, which has put increasing pressure on urban transport, the city leaders recommended co-ordinating with the Ministry of Public Security to take special measures on residence management. NA hears 5-year land plan not implemented correctly (19-05-2006) HA NOI — Many provinces were yet to revise land-use plans according to the 2003 Land Law and several districts and communes have either failed to implement the 2001-05 plan thoroughly or carry out evaluation in a timely manner, said NA Economic and Budgetary Committee at the ongoing session of the National Assembly in Ha Noi. The committee made these observations at the presentation of a government report delivered by Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Mai Ai Truc of the five-year land-use plan for 2006-10 yesterday. The committee’s appraisal report, delivered by Committee Chairman Nguyen Duc Kien, said that these were problems that had adversely impacted the implementation of the 2001-05 plan and the ones that need to be tackled during the new plan period.
