US retail scanner maker opens first Asia plant in HCM City (13-07-2009) HCM CITY — The US-based Datalogic Scanning, the world leader in fixed position retail scanning, opened its first factory in the Asia-Pacific region at the Sai Gon Hi-tech Park last Friday. The facility, capitalised at US$46.6 million, is producing the Magellan bi-optic scanner. It has recruited more than 60 employees, including managers, engineers and technicians, from technical colleges and universities around Viet Nam. When fully operational in 2014, it will employ 400 workers to turn out 1 million units and achieve an annual export of $200 million. Enterprises shutting down or filing for closure outpace newly-established ones in the first two months of the year - PHOTO: THANH HOA HCMC - The first two months of the year saw more than 16,800 enterprises shutting down or filing for closure, while the number of newly-established firms was nearly 16,000, Thanh Nien Online newspaper reported, citing statistics from the General Statistics Office. In this period, 3,156 firms completed dissolution procedures, up 24.8% over the same period last year. These firms are mainly in the wholesale, retail, auto and motorcycle repair, processing and construction sectors.
