Deputy Tô Văn Tám from the Central Highland province of Kon Tum said that with the draft revision, the Public Security Ministry will be adding commune police into the people’s public security force. Thus, it was not necessary to develop another law for the commune police. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Major General Lương Tam Quang, director of the ministry’s office said that the reshuffle followed a directive adopted by the Politburo with the aim of becoming a more efficient and lean agency. Specifically, the ministry would remove six general departments and merge 60 divisions with similar functions into just over 50. So far, nearly 300 sub-divisions have been reduced. A total of 20 firefighting departments have been merged into their respective provincial or municipal police departments, Quang added. In total, the restructure would remove more than 1,500 sub-divisions of the provincial police departments.
