In the media equivalent of the fabled “Day the Music Died,” President Obama ended the Birther narrative as a major news story by releasing his long-form birth certificate Wednesday morning. In remarks to reporters in the White House briefing room. the President explained that the issue had become too large a distraction, and obliquely dismissed undeclared Republican frontrunner Donald Trump as a “carnival barker.” The President was only able to obtain the copy with a legal exception from the State of Hawaii. As we reported previously, the law prevented President Obama from releasing it on his own. Although the Birther movement will likely live on, fueled by the fetid imaginations of dead-enders, this effectively ends the issue as a news story. Here are the President’s remarks: Transcript (via email from The White House): THE PRESIDENT: Hello, everybody. Now, let me just comment, first of all, on the fact that I can’t get the networks to break in … [Read more...] about President Obama’s Remarks on Long Form Birth Certificate ‘Carnival Barkers’
On the heels of news that three Oklahoma teens allegedly shot and killed an Australian jogger for sport, former Florida Republican Rep. Allen West lashed out at President Obama and the “race industry crew.” “‘We were bored & decided to kill somebody.’ 3 black teens shoot white jogger.Who will POTUS identify w/this time?” West tweeted Tuesday afternoon with a link to a New York Post article on the matter.Following the acquittal of shooter George Zimmerman for the murder of Florida teen Trayvon Martin, Obama said that Martin “could have been me 35 years ago.” Earlier, Obama had said that if he had a son, “he’d look like Trayvon.” (RELATED: The racists Tweets of one of the accused teenagers) West cast a wider net on Facebook. “[S]hall we hear anything from the race industry crew, Hollywood elites, or maybe Oprah Winfrey? The issue is not about proliferation of guns in America. This is about a failing … [Read more...] about Allen West on ‘bored’ teen murderers: ‘Who will President Obama identify with in this case?’

Beto O'Rourke may have lost in Texas, but he's winning in Obamaland. Aides to the former president and the man himself say O'Rourke's campaign against Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, gave them flashbacks to Obama's precocious political rise and has positioned the young white congressman as an early if unlikely heir to the first black president's "hope and change" mantle. Obama said as much at an event in Chicago last week and some of his former political lieutenants have been publicly encouraging O'Rourke to consider a 2020 presidential bid, while privately counseling him on what to expect should he jump in. Obama and his coterie are personally closer to any number of other potential candidates, especially former Vice President Joe Biden, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a photograph of Obama … [Read more...] about Obama aides say Beto O’Rourke reminds them of the ex-president. Washington (CNN)It was a huge win for President Barack Obama but, as is so often the case in polarized Washington, it may just be a prelude to a bigger battle ahead. Congress finally granted the president fast-track trade authority on Wednesday, after Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the Republican who once plotted to deny him reelection, saved a centerpiece of the president's second term by forcing a bill opposed by most Democrats through the Senate. The vote revived Obama's trade agenda, was a lifeline for his signature Asia "pivot" policy -- for which the vast trade pact in the works is crucial -- and was a rare instance of leaders working across the aisle.
