"In January 2018, 164 cases of measles were registered in the country and two people died because of acute respiratory failure. We are speaking about the deaths of two people aged 41 and 38," Lorenzin said on the air of the Rai Italia broadcaster. The figures of the Italian National Institute of Health (ISS) said that almost 5,000 cases of measles were registered across the country in 2017. Including the latest figures, six people died from the measles in the country from the beginning of last year. The majority of infected people have not been vaccinated, the ISS added. According to the institution, the rapid growth in infected people has been caused by the fact that the number of parents choosing not to vaccinate their children from the disease has been increasing. In 2017, the Italian parliament adopted a law on compulsory vaccination of children from 10 … [Read more...] about At Least 2 People Died From Measles in Italy in January – Health Minister
"The research shows that delays in emergency departments are harmful for patients and lead to very poor patient experience, and also involve a risk of death, that we have tried to quantify", Moulton said, as quoted by The Guardian. Both doctors concluded that these deaths were solely caused by the length of time patients were forced to wait, the newspaper said, and their study is the first medical research to make such a direct correlation. According to NHS documents, the operational standard for accident and emergency waiting times sees 95 percent of patients being treated, transferred or discharged within four hours of their arrival. In September of this year, the NHS managed to treat, transfer or discharge just 85.2 percent of patients, according to an official performance report. © Sputnik / Evgenia FilimianovaLondon march in support of the National Health Service (NHS) Commentators have blamed the poor performance of the UK health service on a significant lack of funding, … [Read more...] about Thousands Died in UK Over Last 3 Years While Awaiting Treatment at NHS Hospitals – Reports

The latest statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that 37 children have died so far this flu season, which began in October. Police in New Zealand have launched a criminal investigation after White Island erupted, leaving Two British women in hospital and killing up to 13 people. The two women were among 47 people on White Island, a volcanic tourist island also known as Whakaari, when it erupted with a large plume of ash and steam at 2.11pm on Monday. As horrific details emerged about the eruption – in which most victims suffered severe burns – New Zealand Police Deputy Commissioner John Tims announced the investigation as questions emerged over why tour groups were allowed into the volcano zone despite scientists' warnings of increased activity. 'I can confirm now that we will commence a criminal investigation into the circumstances of the death and injuries on White Island,' Mr Tims told a press conference, adding the probe would run parallel to an investigation by WorkSafe New Zealand. Of the 47 people, 34 were rescued from the island and 31 of them remain in hospital, some … [Read more...] about Police in New Zealand launch criminal investigation after volcano island erupts killing up to 13 people and leaving two British women in hospital
Almost 5,500 patients have died over the past three years because they have spent so long on a trolley in an A&E unit waiting for a bed in overcrowded hospitals, a study by leading NHS doctors has found. Their conclusion that long delays finding spare beds is costing patients’ lives has emerged as Boris Johnson comes under mounting pressure over the fragile state of the NHS. In all 5,449 people have lost their lives since 2016 as a direct result of waiting anywhere between six hours and 11 hours, according to research seen by the Guardian. It found that those deaths represent the total “estimated attributable mortality” from the delays. The Patients Association called the findings “deeply shocking and very worrying” and blamed the deaths on underfunding of the NHS. The conclusions are contained in an analysis of the care received by more than four million people who attended A&E in England over the past three years. The research, by Dr Chris … [Read more...] about Thousands of patients die waiting for beds in hospitals – study
