The declaration will take effect at midnight and a partial travel ban was declared. A winter storm warning also was declared for six New Jersey counties. The state of emergency was declared for a system that could bring snow and ice and cause power outages and messy roads on Monday evening and Tuesday morning (see snow estimates below). "It's going to be a mess pretty much everywhere," Murphy said. The declaration means that the state will deploy extra resources to make sure that the roads are clear and safe on Tuesday. Murphy did encourage people to stay off the highways and a travel ban was declared for commercial vehicles on state roadways. WASHINGTON – The White House has requested a walk-through of the U.S. Capitol in anticipation of a State of the Union address next week, officials said Tuesday, despite the request by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to postpone the speech in light of the partial government shutdown. Two administration officials confirmed the request to the sergeant-at-arms, speaking on condition of anonymity because the White House's handling of the State of the Union is still in the planning stages. She cited "security concerns" brought on by the shutdown, which passed its 32nd day Tuesday. Trump has never formally responded to Pelosi, but did taunt her in a Sunday tweet. "Nancy, I am still thinking about the State of the Union speech, there are so many options - including doing it as per your … [Read more...] about Donald Trump requests Capitol walk-through, still plans State of the Union speech, officials say

WASHINGTON – House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s request to delay President Donald Trump’s State of Union address has been met with silence from the White House, yet another indication there is no movement toward ending a partial government shutdown that is nearing its fifth week. Pelosi said Thursday the White House has yet to respond to her letter asking that the speech – scheduled for Jan. 29 – be delayed until after the government reopens or that Trump submit it to Congress in writing instead. The California Democrat remained adamant that the speech should be postponed if the government has not reopened. "It isn't as if that date is sacred for any reason," she said.
