SAN FRANCISCO — No more getting packages stolen. No more worries about being there to receive them. Starting next month, people in 37 U.S. cities can have Amazon drop their package inside their front door, without ever giving anyone a key. On Nov. 8, Amazon will begin offering a secure-lock service, called Amazon Key, that will give Amazon Logistics delivery personnel permission to unlock a customer's door for 5 minutes. Using the Cloud Cam, a new Amazon device shoppers first buy, the entire delivery will be live-streamed to the customer and also sent as a video snippet.  The service is an effort to thwart one of the problems of Amazon's popular package delivery service — theft — and make it easier for customers to arrange deliveries. SAN FRANCISCO — I gave Amazon the keys to my car last week, and it went pretty well. Not that Amazon needed a lift (and the actual key was a digital one.) I was testing a new program, launching Tuesday, that lets Amazon drivers unlock a customer's vehicle via an app and leave their packages inside it, rather than on their doorstep. Think of it as Amazon turning your car into a locker, only you get to decide where the locker is located — and you can move it around.  It's a new addition to the Amazon Key program, which began in October, that allows Amazon drivers to open customers' front doors and leave packages inside. The Amazon Key In-Car program is available to Prime members where Amazon Key delivery is available, currently 37 metro areas across the United States. SAN FRANCISCO – John Priskorn's porch pirate story is unlike almost all others because of how it ended – his package was recovered, the culprit arrested. He’s the rare exception to a growing problem. More Americans are doing their shopping online, which made up to 9 percent of all retail sales in the United States as of September according to the Department of Commerce. But those packages, so often left out in the open upon delivery, are just too enticing to thieves. “I know this is America and you should have a God-given right to have packages delivered to your front door. But we have these people throwing packages on your property at all hours of the day,” said Capt.
