The December 6, 2019, Naval Air Station Pensacola attack reminded us once more that gun-free policies on military installations make U.S. troops sitting ducks.Breitbart News reported that a gunman opened fire Friday morning in Pensacola, killing three innocents and causing numerous others to be transported to the hospital for injuries. The Associated Press reported that the Pensacola gunman was an aviation student from Saudi Arabia, and NBC News reported that the gunman’s name was Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani. He used a handgun to carry out his attack. Pertinent to news of this horrific firearm-based attack is the fact that Naval Air Station Pensacola is a gun-free zone. Breitbart News reported the air station’s gun-free status shortly after the attack. The station’s firearm policy, as described by Commander, Navy Region Mid-Atlantic, notes: While federal and state laws differ widely on the subject, regulations pertaining … [Read more...] about Hawkins: Gun-Free Military Installations Make U.S. Troops Sitting Ducks

Daft Brit tourist jailed for 5 years after bringing stun guns back from Bulgaria for ‘the boys’
A holilaymaker has been jailed for five years after bringing illegal stun guns back from a trip to Bulgaria as gifts for “the boys”. Niall Dinsmore was caught with the weapon stash in his luggage at Edinburgh Airport after returning from his vacation. The 28-year-old was said to be “shocked” to discover they were classed as firearms. His offence carries a minimum five-year sentence unless “exceptional circumstances” can be proved. At the High Court in Edinburgh, judge Lord Boyd told Dinsmore he had carefully considered the case, but found no such circumstances. He said: “You knew it was wrong. That distinguishes this case from others where the accused did not know what they were doing was illegal.” The judge said Dinsmore had also bought five stun guns, not just one, to give away as presents to friends and relatives, reports the Daily Record. Lord Boyd added: “Regardless of whether they kept them or did not use them, you were … [Read more...] about Daft Brit tourist jailed for 5 years after bringing stun guns back from Bulgaria for ‘the boys’
Goodbye, Ally McBeal. We owe you
The television character Ally McBeal - an American lawyer as thin as a liberal judge's hope of election to the US supreme court - suffers from inconvenient hallucinations. These range from the conviction that Barry Manilow is singing to her in her apartment, to the recurrent motif of a dancing baby which symbolises internal urges to fertility as her thirties advance. Because of rumours that the actress who plays her, Calista Flockhart, was able to use a broomstick as a stand-in during lighting rehearsals, the viewer often suspected that the actress was herself suffering troubling visions of choc-chip cookies and having to go up to a size 6 dress. This weekend, Ms Flockhart may be having unwanted flashes of the dole queue, because it has been announced that the series, created by David E Kelly, will be cancelled next month after five seasons. Although no one will cry like a dancing baby over the end of a show which made millions for those involved in it, Ally is worth a proper send-off … [Read more...] about Goodbye, Ally McBeal. Pennsylvania lawmaker charged with stealing from nonprofit
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Prosecutors charged a state representative from Philadelphia on Wednesday with enriching herself by stealing money from a nonprofit organization she founded to serve the mentally ill and poor who were fighting addiction. Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro’s office accused Rep. Movita Johnson-Harrell of perjury, tampering with public records, theft and other charges. Shapiro said a plea deal was expected to be worked out. Court papers said the theft went on for years as Johnson-Harrell converted the charity’s funds into investment properties, vacations and luxury clothing. Shapiro said Johnson-Harrell personally spent more than $500,000 from Motivations Education & Consultation Associates, diverting Medicaid and Social Security disability funds. The 53-year-old Democrat won a special election in March in a west Philadelphia district. Johnson-Harrell, the first female Muslim member of the House, came to office with the intensely … [Read more...] about Pennsylvania lawmaker charged with stealing from nonprofit
Acer Aspire Switch 10 E review
Acer Aspire Switch 10 E Score Details “Acer cuts too many corners with the Switch 10 to make it a competitive budget laptop.” Affordable Quiet operation Solid battery life Poor performance Awkward design Far too much bloatware For the last few years, manufacturers have been chasing the dream of an affordable laptop that converts into a tablet at a moment’s notice. A lot of these systems have unforgivable design flaws or drastic price and performance compromises, which has left us pessimistic there’s a system that comes anywhere close to that goal. Acer’s Switch 10 E marries a compact, versatile design with improved storage and a super low price point. Under the hood, the Acer Switch 10 E is strikingly similar to the Intel Compute Stick. It carries the same Intel Atom Z3735F, a quad-core chip with a base clock of 1.3GHz, backed by just 2 gigabytes of RAM. For storage, the Acer 10 has a 64GB internal SSD, … [Read more...] about Acer Aspire Switch 10 E review
