The northern province’s police are asked to bring to court charges against 92 people, facing a total of seven criminal offences, from organising gambling activities and purchasing fake invoices to money laundering, bribing and abuse of power. Twelve others are still on the run and will be brought to trial later, the police said. The ring was led by 31-year-old Nguyễn Quang Khương, living in Phương Liễu Commune. The local police searched six game arcades and discovered 18 people gambling via the internet. These people opened accounts on a gambling website and exchanged real cash for virtual money to gamble. VNĐ1 million ($44) of real cash is exchanged for VNĐ1.1 million ($47) of virtual money. Virtual money won in the games is then exchanged for real money. VNĐ1 million of virtual money can be exchanged for VNĐ800,000 ($35) of real cash. VĨNH PHÚC – Police in the northern province of Vĩnh Phúc have smashed a large-scale illegal online gambling ring, with 22 arrests and the seizure of over VNĐ200 billion (over US$8.8 million). The ring was operating via a website, 3in1bet.com , with gambling in the form of football bets. Lưu Văn Nam, 29, from Vĩnh Yên City, was identified as the leader of the ring. The police also seized some computers, mobile phones and currency.
