ASEAN defence officials discuss agenda for October

HCM CITY — Senior defence officials from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations yesterday discussed the agenda for the upcoming ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting Retreat in Ha Noi on October 11. The retreat, in turn, will reach consensus on the agenda for the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM )to be held the next day. ADMM+ includes the 10 ASEAN members plus Australia, China, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Russia, and the US. Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Viet Nam's deputy defence minister and head of its delegation, said yesterday's meeting focused on three documents: the agenda for the ADMM+, joint declaration by 18 defence ministers, and a discussion on the potential, prospects, and directions for co-operation within ADMM+. In addition to tasty dishes and diverse products offered by about 70 booths, the festival will feature cooking demonstrations by experienced artisans, folk games, and activities that introduce the history, culture, and cuisine of different parts of the country. The Hanoi Food Culture Festival is expected to become a major cultural event that honors local food and contributes to promoting the capital city’s tourism. Greek President to make official visit

Greek President to make official visit (07-10-2008) HA NOI — Greek President Karolos Papoulias will pay an official visit to Viet Nam from October 11 to 16 at the invitation of State President Nguyen Minh Triet. It will be the first visit to Viet Nam made by a Greek president since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 1975. President Papoulias will be accompanied by the Greek Foreign Minister, other high ranking Government officials and business representatives. Bilateral relations between Viet Nam and Greece have developed strongly since the visit to Viet Nam by Greek Prime Minister Kostas Karamanlis in May 2007, the opening of the Greek embassy in Ha Noi in March 2007 and the visit to Greece by President Nguyen Minh Triet in June this year. On the Hochiminh Stock Exchange (HOSE), the number of bluechips traded in positive territory was less than 10, with only consumer goods firm MSN and construction firm ROS gaining roughly 2%. ROS also led the southern bourse by liquidity with over 11 million shares changing hands, far outperforming the runner-up, lender STB, which saw five million shares traded. Trang has worked at Go-Viet for only five months, the local media reported. This is the second time within six months that Go-Viet has had to replace its chief executive officer. Go-Viet noted that after five months on the job, Trang, also known as Christy Le, decided to leave the job for personal reasons. “We tried to reach an agreement but were unsuccessful,” Go-Viet stated.
