Former NFL wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. says he battled depression during his 16-year career with the Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens. Atlanta (CNN)Colin Kaepernick will finally get a chance Saturday to show his stuff again to NFL teams — after nearly a three-year wait. On a practice field near Atlanta, the 32-year-old free agent quarterback will have about two hours to demonstrate his skills. At least 11 teams will send personnel to watch the league-arranged workout at the Atlanta Falcons' practice facility in Flowery Branch, Georgia, the NFL said Thursday. Other teams can review the workout on video the NFL will provide. As of Thursday, the teams that said they were sending personnel were Arizona, Atlanta, Cleveland, Denver, Detroit, Miami, New England, New York Giants, New York Jets, Tampa Bay and Washington, the NFL said. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jacksonville Jaguars rookie tight end Josh Oliver will make his NFL debut at Cincinnati — and it might come in a starting role. Oliver was a full participant in practice for the second consecutive day Friday, and coach Doug Marrone says he won’t be limited Sunday against the Bengals (0-6). “It was good that he was able to go full later in the week,” Marrone said. “He’s going to play, and we’ll see how it goes.” Marrone ruled out receiver Marqise Lee (ankle) and tight end Geoff Swaim (concussion), and listed receiver Dede Westbrook (shoulder) as questionable. ATLANTA (AP) — Colin Kaepernick has to audition for a job in a workout on Saturday strangely organized by the NFL while other quarterbacks with lesser talent were given opportunities over the past three years. Of course, the reason Kaepernick hasn’t played in a game since New Year’s Day 2017 goes beyond football. Kaepernick has been exiled since becoming a free agent months after he began kneeling during the national anthem before games in 2016 to protest social and racial injustice. He drew strong criticism from President Donald Trump and many others for his peaceful demonstration and eventually sued the league for colluding to keep him out. The NFL in February settled the collusion grievance Kaepernick and former teammate Eric Reid had filed. Reid now plays for the Carolina Panthers. FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — A big change of plans for Colin Kaepernick’s NFL workout. Just 15 minutes before Kaepernick was scheduled to work out Saturday for 25 NFL teams at the Atlanta Falcons’ training complex in Flowery Branch, the quarterback’s representatives announced the session was being moved 60 miles away to a high school in Riverdale. The representatives said the switch was made because they wanted the media to be allowed to watch and videotape the workout. It was a stunning move that seemed to catch everyone off-guard.
