Addressing a meeting to mark the 60th anniversary of the Voice of Viet Nam yesterday, Dien expressed hope that reporters, editors, technicians and other staff would unite to make the station stronger and to continue to broadcast quality programmes. Despite differences in geography, population and economic growth levels, the five member countries, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam, share a common goal of prosperity, peace and stability. National Assembly plans events for 60th anniversary

National Assembly plans events for 60th anniversary (19-11-2005) HA NOI — The National Assembly Office announced at a press conference yesterday the activities planned for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the National Assembly. Activities will include meetings with former NA delegates, workshops and the presentation of a documentary about the NA’s last 60 years. Viet Nam Television will broadcast a programme to introduce viewers to the history of the National Assembly, and an exhibition will be held at the Ho Chi Minh Museum beginning November 24. The press conference also announced the launch of a media campaign about the NA. The determination was clearly reflected in the promulgation of the Law on Practising Thrift and Combating Waste, which would be voted on by the NA next week, he told lawmakers. On the Government’s responsibility in the war against this scourge, Deputy PM Dung said the Government was devising numerous solutions, including refining institutions and policies and accelerating administrative reform. International approach on illicit drugs shows results (11-02-2006) HA NOI — Viet Nam has had encouraging results in the fight against drug trafficking in recent years thanks to its expansion of co-operation with other countries. The number of drug addicts in the country has been reduced by 7 per cent in 2005, while the country raised its efficiency in the fight against drug offenders both inside the country and along its borders. So said Pham Quy Ngo, Deputy Director of the General Police Department under the Ministry of Public Security, at the 11th International Conference on combating illegal drugs in the Asia-Pacific region held in Tokyo, Japan this week. Slovakian president makes official visit

Slovakian president makes official visit Ivan Gasparovic, President of Slovakia, arrives in Viet Nam today. — File Photo (16-10-2006) HA NOI — Slovakian President Ivan Gasparovic will begin his three-day official visit to Viet Nam today at the invitation of President Nguyen Minh Triet. This is the first visit to Viet Nam by a head of state of Slovakia since the country was formed from the former Czechoslovakia. Talks between the two presidents will begin shortly after a ceremony to welcome Gasparovic and his delegation. Gasparovic is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong today. Gasparovic will travel to HCM City before leaving Viet Nam on Wednesday.
