Prime Minister Phan Van Khai was appointed "Commander in Chief" of the Anti-Corruption Committee under the new law by unanimous agreement of the deputies. "The committee will not do the job of functional offices of the State apparatus," assembly Legal Committee director Vu Duc Khien reassured the deputies. Approval of the law was immediately followed by a call from National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An for the deputies, the Government, Party organisations, and particularly the Prime Minister, to take responsibility for the fight against corruption. NA deputies debate laws on IT, aviation (24-05-2006) HA NOI — National Assembly (NA) deputies yesterday continued discussion on the draft Law on Information Technology following earlier debate on issues related to flight security and compensation for cancellations as provisioned in the draft Law on Civil Aviation. Director of the National Assembly Committee on Science, Technology and Environment Ho Duc Viet presented a report on proposed revisions to the Law on Information Technology, which he said cleared the way for Internet users to register Web sites using the ".vn" Vietnamese domain name without first having to wait for approval from the Ministry of Post and Telematics. Deputy Mai Anh from Khanh Hoa Province said that the draft law needed to clarify that without having to receive ministerial approval, organisations and individuals must accept responsibility for any content posted on their Web sites. Quite a few recent works of art have been created—and often gone viral—in response to the global problem of environmental pollution. Many of these, such as Von Wong’s Strawpocalypse installation in HCMC, recycle waste materials in order to raise awareness, but fewer have actively sought solutions to the waste disposal problems they highlight. Recently, a group of expat and Vietnamese volunteers in the coastal city of Danang were inspired by the concept of combining message and functionality to create Bong, a large bamboo sculpture in the shape of a fish in the busiest area of the city’s famous My Khe Beach. Bong serves as both an awareness-raising work of art and a practical means to alleviate littering and give visitors to the beach a fun way to help clean it up.
