The four-lane road, built with a total investment of VNĐ153 billion (US$6.8 million) from the World Bank, will help reduce travel distance from the city centre to the northwest region from 23km to 11km. Chairman of the provincial people’s committee, Đinh Văn Thu, said the project would help train human resources and serve as a rendezvous for international education exchanges among worldwide universities. He said the project, which had been drawn up by Nguyễn Hoàng Group, would include international standard education programmes from kindergarten to post-graduation level for 12,000 students. US retail scanner maker opens first Asia plant in HCM City (13-07-2009) HCM CITY — The US-based Datalogic Scanning, the world leader in fixed position retail scanning, opened its first factory in the Asia-Pacific region at the Sai Gon Hi-tech Park last Friday. The facility, capitalised at US$46.6 million, is producing the Magellan bi-optic scanner. It has recruited more than 60 employees, including managers, engineers and technicians, from technical colleges and universities around Viet Nam. When fully operational in 2014, it will employ 400 workers to turn out 1 million units and achieve an annual export of $200 million.
