The newspaper quoted the office of the HCMC government as saying on February 13 that the city’s compensation assessment council was assigned to consult with the city government and send the Asian Development Bank information about the updated resettlement plan and accountability. The National Assembly (NA) needed to raise its voice after so many cases of children being abused and mistreated made headlines in recent times, NA Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân said as the committee continued its 33rd meeting yesterday. Luong made his statement at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Viet Nam Lawyers Association. Luong also asked that the association play a greater role in providing legal counsel and settling disputes at the grass roots level. Luong supported a proposal by the association to create a mechanism where they can become more involved in providing support for the creation of laws. Central bank to stop printing small currency notes for Tet The Saigon Times Daily Small-denomination banknotes on display – PHOTO: VNA HCMC – The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) will not be printing low-denomination banknotes for the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet, according to a press statement from the central bank released earlier today, January 7. Pham Bao Lam, head of the Issue and Vault Department at SBV, was quoted by the Vietnam News Agency as saying that the central bank has been following a policy to stop offering new notes of low denominations such as VND10,000 (44 U.S. cents) and lower on the market since November 2018. Despite no issuance of new bills, the number of low-denomination banknotes already in circulation is expected to rise by 25% during the forthcoming Tet holiday, according to Lam. A goal of the fund is to raise capital sources from donors in an effort to implement development strategies for the country’s legal system. It also aims to provide financial support for designated legal projects and issues involved in these strategies by 2010. The issues include management, collaboration and assessment of the implementation of the strategies, reforms and new legislative documents and projects designed to improve the professional qualifications of staff who work in authorised law firms. The Ministry of Justice has been called on to approve the contents of the issues and projects after consulting with donors. Legal aid, deputies argued, should be open to the entire population with priority given to the needy and beneficiaries of State policies. Deputy Nguyen Thi Thuy Mî from Quang Tri Province disagreed.
