Hà Nội’s police seize more than 600 made-in-China water filters labeled as "Made in US" in the case. — Photo tuoitre.vn Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội Police on Friday launched a criminal investigation into two company directors for trading counterfeit products after police and the Market Watch Division last month confiscated more than 600 water filters illegally labeled “Made in US”. The water filters were in fact made in China and bought by two companies – Nhật Quang Company, based in Gia Lâm District, and Thanh Huấn Ltd Co, based in Hoàng Mai District. The two companies admitted to the police that after buying the Chinese water filters, they re-labeled them as “Made in US” and sold them for some VNĐ400,000 (US$17.6) each. Weak legal system may slow foreign investment (08-10-2005) HCM CITY — A weak legal system and poor enforcement of laws could slow the pace of foreign investment, said an Australian lawyer who spoke yesterday at an international trade conference in HCM City. "Despite wide-ranging economic reforms aimed at encouraging foreign investment, Viet Nam remains a difficult investment environment," said Robert Winter, chairman for international law at the Queensland Law Society in Australia. The conference was organised by the city Bar Association and the Law Association for Asia Pacific (Lawasia). About 300 lawyers, Government and corporate representatives are participating in the two-day event, the first such event held by Lawasia in Viet Nam. Last year, APEC leaders endorsed the so-called Busan Roadmap, which is a strategic initiative for commitment to free trade in the APEC region. The roadmap supports WTO negotiations, particularly the Doha Round, De Cure said, because APEC leaders are of the opinion that the best way to reach trade and investment liberalisation objectives is through WTO negotigations.
