DELPHI — People always spell Issac Salinas' first name wrong. It's always been that way. Truth is, it was spelled wrong on his birth certificate. His parents kept it. Salinas made sure people remembered it. With his stellar play, both on the offensive line and at linebacker, he became a star football player for the Delphi Oracles. His biggest impact was at the core of the defense though, where he racked up 343 career tackles, nearly half of them his senior year where he helped the Oracles to a 9-1 record. For his impact in turning around Delphi's football program, Salinas is the Journal & Courier Small School Defensive Player of the Year. "He has always been a kid we've been impressed with between his work ethic and his attitude," Delphi coach Josh Strasser said. Tyrell Cameron, a student at Franklin Parish High School, died shortly after he was transported to Franklin Medical Center late Friday, said coroner's office spokesman Shane Scott. The player was hit during a punt return in the fourth quarter in the game against Sterlington High School, Franklin Parish head coach Barry Sebren told CNN affiliate KNOE. Northeast Louisiana Ambulance Service was on the sidelines during the game and rushed onto the field to help when Cameron was injured. (CNN)Something terrible happened in the third quarter of Pike County High School's football game. But no one knows exactly what. At first, the team thought Dylan Thomas had suffered a leg injury. But two days later, the 16-year-old star linebacker died of a head injury. Now, the rural Georgia county about an hour south of Atlanta is overwhelmed with both confusion and grief. Pike County junior Dylan Thomas told his uncle he was worried about hurting players on the field. "We're in a constant process of evaluating the entire thing to see if we can pinpoint one area that maybe this occurred," coach Brad Webber said. "There wasn't anything that really stuck out." Zebulon, Georgia (CNN)Brad Webber has been coaching football for 30 years, and his worst fear came true during Friday night's game. Dylan Thomas, a 16-year-old linebacker for his Pike County High School football team, had fallen in the third quarter and needed to be helped off the field. His leg was feeling weird, he said. As a doctor and trainer asked him questions and examined him, he became incoherent and lost consciousness. He was taken to a hospital but died two days later of a head injury. "Any time I see one of our players on the ground, you just fear for the worst," coach Webber said. "The worst happened this time." Dylan Thomas, the 16-year-old linebacker, fought off blockers twice his size. He tackled ball-carriers to the turf. And then he got back up and did it again. Until he couldn't anymore. Video of Dylan's final game was released by Pike County High School on Wednesday, less than a week after the game and days after the teenager's shocking death. He died on Sunday from a head injury that first showed its impact in the third quarter, when he came off the field and said his leg was feeling weird, coach Brad Webber said.
