With total capital of VNĐ290 billion (US$12.7 million), the 8,985-sq m centre will include labs where researchers will create as many as 176 kinds of software for e-learning and learning management systems. The research centre for development of high-tech education will also offer e-learning and technical training, including for post-graduates, with the aim of serving 2,400 people each year. The Hòa Lạc Hi-tech Park, approved in 1998, is the first and the largest hi-tech facility in Việt Nam with total area of 1,586 ha. The park is located along Hà Nội’s Thăng Long Boulevard, convenient for transport links to Nội Bài International Airport and Hải Phòng deep-sea port. It is expected to become a model science city and a national hub for technology development and application. About 12,600 people are currently living and working in the park, and by 2030 the park’s population is expected to reach 229,000, half of which will be permanent residents. Chairman of the provincial people’s committee, Đinh Văn Thu, said the project would help train human resources and serve as a rendezvous for international education exchanges among worldwide universities. He said the project, which had been drawn up by Nguyễn Hoàng Group, would include international standard education programmes from kindergarten to post-graduation level for 12,000 students.
