Lawmakers discuss law on technology (28-05-2008) HA NOI — National Assembly delegates yesterday debated the Law on High Technology, with most deputies agreeing that it was necessary to issue the law. Most NA delegates agreed with the name of the law, but some proposed to change it to the Law on High-TechActivities of , said the head of the NA’s Committee for Science, Technology and Environment, Dang Vu Minh. Nguyen Dang Vang from the central province of Binh Dinh said it was necessary to encourage investment in the study and application of high technology. The State earmarked US$350 million this year for scientific studies, he said. Vang said high-tech products should be imported for use in Viet Nam, such as hygienic toilet equipment that uses nano-technology to kill bacteria. He suggested the State make a list of high-tech products and fields that should be given priority. The super satellite city on paper.— Photo tienphong.vn Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — Hà Nội plans to construct a super satellite city by 2030, with a total area of over 17,270ha located in two districts of Thạch Thất and Quốc Oai and Sơn Tây Town. The Hòa Lạc supper satellite city will be some 30km from Hà Nội’s centre. The plan is part of the master plan of Hòa Lạc Urban Area, compiled by the municipal People’s Committee a nd recently submitted to the municipal People’s Council for approval. According to the plan, Hòa Lạc will be the largest among five satellite cities in Hà Nội and scheduled to be home to over 600,000 residents by 2030, the Tiền Phong (Vanguard) newspaper reported. The nucleus of the satellite city is the Hòa Lạc Hi-tech Park and the Việt Nam National University. The scientists include Professor Nguyễn Sơn Bình, Professor Nguyễn Xuân Hùng, Professor Nguyễn Thục Quyên, Professor Võ Văn Ánh and Doctor Trần Phan Lam Sơn. The five are among the 3,000 most influential scientists listed by Thomson Reuters, who earned recognition by publishing the largest number of articles and by being the most frequently cited by fellow researchers. Bình works in the chemistry faculty at Northwestern University in the United States.
