Southern region to see high temperatures in rainy season
The southern region’s rainy season is expected to start in mid-May and end in mid-November. — VNA/VNS Photo Viet Nam News HCM CITY — The rainy season in the southern region this year is expected to have temperatures 0.4 to 0.8 degrees Celsius above average, according to the Southern Hydro-Meteorological Station. Đặng Văn Dũng, deputy head of station, said the rainy season in the south would start a few days later this year, sometime between May 5-15, and will end in mid-November. Rainfall could start earlier in the coastal areas of Kiên Giang and Cà Mau provinces, and the northern mountainous and the southeastern regions. Heavy rains are usually affected by extreme weather events, and accompanied by strong thunderstorms, whirlwinds and lightning in the first months of the rainy season. Dr Đào Trung Hiếu, deputy head of the HCM City Paediatrics Hospital 1, said on Tuesday that the infant was brought to the hospital on October 6 from Từ Dũ Hospital in HCM City. She had a high fever and a tumour measuring 10cm x 10cm x 5cm in size. After being admitted to the HCM City Paediatrics Hospital 1, the tumour began to swell and the baby’s fever had not abated. A CAT scan showed that a vascular anomaly of veins and lymph vessels, a rare condition in infants, had caused the tumour. The tumour eventually grew to 15cm x 25cm x 10cm. However, to date no sample has tested positive for the deadly virus in Việt Nam, according to the ministry’s Preventive Medicine Department. “Việt Nam has not reported any case that has tested positive for the Zika virus,” department director Trần Đắc Phu said. The exam is scheduled to run from today through June 24. Candidates will take five tests: math, literature, foreign language, natural science (including physics, chemistry, biology) and social science (including history, geography and citizen education). Associate Professor Mai Văn Trinh, head of the Department of Testing and Education Quality Assurance, said the tests include 60 per cent basic knowledge.
