The station is expected to be linked with the metro line No 3A from Bến Thành to Tân Kiên Station, monorail No 2 from National Highway 50 to Thanh Đa, and bus rapid transit systems. The new station, in An Phú Tây Commune in Bình Chánh District – it is now in Bình Tân District – should also ensure it moves 50,000 passengers and operates 2,500 buses every day, the city said. The station, which would help reduce traffic congestion at the airport, would link with Thủ Thiêm Tunnel and Long Thành Highway to also serve Long Thành Airport in the future. The station would have three floors and seven underground floors, with aviation service areas taking up 40 per cent of the space. Though the city is a major tourism hub in the country, it trails other localities in developing a master plan for tourism development, Phạm Trung Lương, former deputy head of the Institute for Tourism Development Research, said. The sector has not been proactive in advising the city administration to develop the metro into a “destination that never sleeps” or unique tourism products, he told at a roundtable on August 16. HCM City court sentences four drug dealers to death (30-05-2007) HCM CITY — The mighty hand of the law came crashing down on Monday as the HCM City People’s Court handed down four death penalties and one life imprisonment sentence to convicted drug dealers. A total of 21 defendants were tried for producing and trafficking drugs. The death penalties were slapped on Le Van Tien, 48, a resident of An Giang and head of the trafficking ring; Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyet, a 31-year-old resident of HCM City’s District 1; Tran Van Quynh, 47, a resident of HCM City’s Binh Tan District; and Nguyen Van Tien, 42, a resident of Binh Tan District. The four condemned to die are charged with trafficking from 3.4 kg to 5.2 kg of ecstasy each. Truong Hoang Bao Son, a 31-year-old resident of HCM City’s District 8, was sentenced to life in jail. At 9.30am, fire broke out at a wood processing company in Đồng Phú District’s Tân Phú Town in Bình Phước. The blaze started in MDF Kim Tín Joint Stock Company’s kiln and spread to its sawdust storage dump. Workers had to flee the factory as the flames spread rapidly and damaged property amounted to VNĐ1 billion (US$44,500). The fire was brought under control in an hour. HCM City People’s Committee has increased the K coefficient used to adjust land prices. — VNS File Photo Viet Nam News HCM CITY — The coefficient used for land price adjustments, called the K coefficient, will increase by 0.1 in each circumstance, according to a regulation included in a decision by the HCM City People’s Committee. It has taken effect since yesterday. The K coefficient will be 1.1 for households or individuals recognised by the State to have the right to use residential land, and the right to change the purpose of land-use from non- residential land to residential. The K coefficient for land used for rent will be divided into two groups and five regions, based on the purpose of land use. The first group covers use for business services, financial services, restaurants, hotels and houses for rent.
