Fox News is the unofficial propaganda arm of the Trump administration, but it could also be a useful tool for Democrats seeking to show they can hack it in hostile territory—and maybe even peel off some of the president’s support on his own turf. On Sunday, Pete Buttigieg became the latest 2020 Democrat to turn in a solid performance in a Fox News town hall, holding his own under questioning by Chris Wallace, throwing jabs at Donald Trump and the network’s loony opinion staff, and drawing applause from the studio audience. The exercise seemed to hint that the Fox News bubble can be pierced, even as it opened the South Bend mayor up to criticism from the left for appearing on the network Elizabeth Warren has justifiably described as a “hate-for-profit racket.” “A lot of people in my party were critical of me doing this, and I get where that’s coming from, especially when you see what goes on with some of the opinion hosts on this network,” … [Read more...] about Pete Buttigieg Reveals the Trouble with Going on Fox News

House Democrats are trying to encourage their members to make appearances on Fox News, despite the Democratic National Committee's (DNC) decision to ice out the conservative-leaning network from hosting its primary debates. The Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC), which serves as House Democrats' official messaging arm, is hosting a training session on Friday to offer guidance for Democrats appearing on Fox News. The session, titled "Winning on Fox News: Best Practices" and first reported by CNN, will feature Democratic communications strategists John Neffinger and Jess McIntosh. The Friday event is part of an ongoing effort among House Democrats to engage with conservative Fox News viewers and not limit themselves to interviews with left-leaning prime-time anchors on MSNBC or CNN. "It’s a missed opportunity for House Democrats not to communicate directly to Fox News viewers how we are pushing and fighting to lower the cost of their prescription … [Read more...] about House Dems encouraging members to appear on Fox News

Minnesota Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Amy Klobuchar appeared to urge her fellow candidates to venture into the “uncomfortable” space that is Fox News, but is that a good move for Democrats looking to secure votes from a base that’s not particularly fond of the network? On Tuesday night, Klobuchar concluded her interview with Bret Baier by volunteering that “One of the reasons I came on this show is that I believe candidates for office, whether Democrat or Republican, have to go not just where it’s comfortable, but where it’s uncomfortable. And I love you. Fox may not always be comfortable for Democrats but I want to make that point.” That’s a bold suggestion to make in an election season with an ever-growing Democratic field of candidates who will be competing for votes from a base that had no love for Fox News, to begin with, and increasingly views the network as a propaganda arm for Donald Trump. But aside from a … [Read more...] about Should Democratic Presidential Candidates Allow Themselves to Be Interviewed on Fox News?
