HA NOI (VNS) — Ha Noi air pollution is at hazardous levels, threatening the health of those with respiratory diseases and endangering public health in general, according to Air Quality Index (AQI) statistics. The index is published on the website  and provides real time air quality and pollution monitoring of cities worldwide. The pollution rate in Ha Noi is also measured by the United States (US) Embassy in Ha Noi and by the Viet Nam Centre for Environmental Monitoring under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. Last Tuesday and Wednesday, the pollution rate was measured at the US Embassy on Dong Da District’s Lang Ha Street and at the United Nations International School of Ha Noi in Tay Ho District. Measurements fluctuated between 114 to 388. A high score of 388 was documented at 9pm on Tuesday. The rain, mostly concentrated in the western part of the city, has flooded the inner districts of Cầu Giấy, Bắc Từ Liêm, Nam Từ Liêm, Hà Đông and Thanh Xuân. This led to traffic chaos, particularly during the morning rush hours when people were heading to school and to work. The flood water even overflowed into the houses of residents. Heavy rain along with the ongoing infrastructure construction of canals in Vĩnh Tuy, Thụy Khuê, Nghĩa Đô and Tây Sơn are blamed for the insufficient drainage, which led to floods in the city. A number of transport licenses were revoked due to inactivity in Hà Nội. — Photo tuoitre.vn Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — The licences of some 1,225 transpor t entities in Hà Nội have been revoked, reported Tuổi Trẻ (Youth) n ewspaper. According to the Hà Nội Transportation Department, passenger buses whose licences have been revoked had failed to operate within six months after acqquiring their licences. Among the 1 ,225 registrations , there are 389 companies and 812 family businesses, with a total of 1,200 registered vehicles. The department has asked those businesses to hand over their licences and badges within 15 days. Đào Việt Long, head of the department’s transport management division, told the newspaper that the revoking would be implemented and monitored by the division and the city’s transport inspectors. General Soe Win, began his official visit to Viet Nam today at the invitation of Prime Minister Phan Van Khai. Dates set for APEC summit in Ha Noi (22-07-2005) HA NOI — The summit meeting of senior Asia-Pacific leaders will be held in Ha Noi for two days from November 18-19 next year, it was decided at an international symposium to prepare for the event yesterday. Viet Nam will also host a series of meetings between APEC ministers and working groups. All are expected to contribute to APEC’s goals for free trade and investment through increased co-operation. National Day parade planned for Ha Noi (26-08-2005) HA NOI — Plans for celebrating the 60th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, September 2, were announced in Ha Noi yesterday. A highlight would be rallies by the people and a military parade in historical Ba Dinh Square, the Steering Committee for Important Ceremonies Chairman, Culture and Information Minister Pham Quang Nghi, told a news conference.
