Bus routes in Hà Nội opened for public bidding this year to reduce reliance on the State budget and improve quality, reported Tiền Phong (Vanguard) newspaper.– Photo baogiaothong.vn HÀ NỘI – Bus routes in Hà Nội opened for public bidding this year to reduce reliance on the State budget and improve quality, reported Tiền Phong (Vanguard) newspaper. “All bus routes in the capital city of Hà Nội will be publicly bid for by the year 2020”, said Ngô Mạnh Tuấn, vice director of the Hà Nội’s Transport. “The aim of the move is to reduce the State financial subsidies and enhance the service”, he told the paper. According to Tuấn, the city has 112 bus routes operated by 12 different companies, of which 92 routes are subsidised by the State. The city plans to open 65 routes for bidding by the year 2020 , Tuấn said, with the contracts lasting for a term of five years instead of the one as present. Chief of the Ministry of Home Affairs office Vũ Đăng Minh revealed the figures at a press conference on August 21. Minh said more than 5,750 employees were made redundant in 2015, more than 11,900 employees in 2016, about 12,660 employees in 2017 and some 9,460 in the first seven months of 2018. The move is part of the Party and Government efforts to downsize the number of public employees in recent years. The city plans to make some 11,200 State employees redundant from 2018-20. The information was released under a report of the city’s Home Affairs Department at a recent press conference held by the Hà Nội Party Committee. The number of State employees made redundant in the first nine months of this year was about seven times higher than the total number of State employees made redundant in 2017. The violations and the poor quality of planning of residential areas were found after the inspectors checked 38 out of 204 projects. Housing plans were adjusted several times, leading to changes in the heights of buildings and land use coefficient.
