It's been a diverse year for the 75th Venice Film Festival , which saw many stars and artists arrive at the glamorous Italian celebration of cinema to see the best the medium has to offer. Audiences were wowed by the likes of Ryan Gosling in La La Land director Damien Chazelle's biopic on Neil Armstrong, First Man, Lady Gaga in Bradley Cooper's acclaimed directorial debut A Star is Born, and Natalie Portman in celebrity commentary Vox Lux. However, a trio of actresses set tongues wagging in Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos' historical farce The Favourite, which saw Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone as two ladies competing to be the favourites of British monarch Queen Anne (Olivia Colman). This question is at the crux of the tragic but necessary tale of Boy Erased, the new drama that tackles how a young man is outed by his rapist and forced to attend a gay conversion therapy camp to keep his religious parents in his life. In this camp he is forced to face abuse and hardship and feel ashamed of who he really is. The new drama is based on a memoir by Garrard Conley, who the main character is based on. Sonchiriya is the mythical bird made out of gold, a heartland version of sone ki chiriya -- what India was reportedly once called, and hot on its scent are the baaghis -- rebels or dacoits -- from Chambal.
