HCM City’s deputy secretary to face punishments

Tất Thành Cang. — VNA/VNS Photo HCM CITY — HCM City’s Party Committee’s Standing Board yesterday proposed disciplining Tất Thành Cang, Politburo member and deputy secretary of HCM City’s Party Committee, for violations related to the transfer of Phước Kiển residential area in the city’s outlying district of Nhà Bè. Cang reportedly allowed Tân Thuận Investment and Construction Co. Ltd (a State-owned company), to sell a 33.1-ha land plot in the district to Quốc Cường Gia Lai Company at a price much cheaper than market value. Cang was found to have made unauthorised decisions and violated State regulations on the management of properties, investment of State enterprises and real estate business. He did not follow regulations in addressing works of the municipal Party Committee. The building, constructed in 1881 in Bến Thành ward, District 1, is one of the three typical architectural structures of the city, along with the headquarters of the municipal People’s Committee and the municipal Post Office. It was recognised as a national architectural relic site in 2012. According to Chief Judge of the municipal People’s Court Ung Thị Xuân Hương, the project will cost VNĐ320 billion (US$14.3 million). HCM City police to patrol on bikes

HCM City’s District 5 police starts patrolling on bikes. Photo vnexpress.net HCM CITY (VNS) – Following Hà Nội’s example, HCM City police will now start managing daily patrols on bicycles as a part of a pilot programme. The District 5 police is the first unit in the city to adopt a bicycle patrol instead of motorbikes or mini trucks, and 59 bikes were officially handed over to the force, which manages 15 wards, yesterday morning. District police Chief Colonel Nguyễn Văn Tiến said if the model proved effective, the district would receive another 51 bikes. He said the bicycle patrol would bring the law enforcement forces closer to the residents, while helping the police personnel get fit and save money from the budget at the same time.
