Viet Nam and the Philippines set up diplomatic ties in 1976. Since then, the friendship and comprehensive co-operation relation between the two countries have been continuously developed and consolidated. The two sides regularly exchange delegations at all levels and maintain close co-operation at international and regional forums. In the first eight months of the year, bilateral trade between them reached US$1.87 billion. Viet Nam's main exports to the Philippines include rice, electronic components and agricultural products. The ritual is performed at the Tran Vu Temple festival on the third day of the third lunar month. It was earlier recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as the nation’s intangible cultural heritage in 2016. Vietjet has introduced a new international route between Phu Quoc Island off Kien Giang Province and Hong Kong. This new direct service will connect the famous tourism island of Vietnam to one of the most significant destinations for finance, commerce and tourism in the Asia Pacific region. The route is expected to meet air travel demand, promote tourism and facilitate trade and cultural exchanges among the localities.
