HANGZHOU - In the international mail exchange bureau in the eastern Chinese city of Yiwu, goods are automatically sorted and cleared before being sent directly to their export destinations. The exported goods in the country's small commodity hub do not need to go first to the mail exchange offices in much bigger cities of Hangzhou and Shanghai, thus facilitating cross-border e-commerce. Yiwu was the first county-level city to be included in China's third batch of comprehensive cross-border e-commerce pilot zones in July 2018. Dubbed as the "World's Supermarket," it receives more than 550,000 overseas buyers and sells commodities to more than 210 countries and regions every year. Last year, cross-border e-commerce contributed to 65.5 billion yuan ($9.3 billion), or about 28 percent, of all the online sales revenue in the city. Zhu Qingling, a merchant in the city's massive small commodity wholesale market, now receives fewer foreign buyers to its booth but gets more orders online. Industry against merger of textile, commerce divisions
PHOTO: REUTERS KARACHI: The value-added textile sector has opposed the merger of commerce and textile divisions citing that it will affect the overall performance of the sector. A statement jointly issued by Council of All Pakistan Textile Mills Associations Chairman Muhammad Zubair Motiwala and other textile industry stakeholders urged Prime Minister Imran Khan to withdraw the decision of merging commerce and textile divisions as it would damage the sector. The stakeholders asked the government to keep the textile ministry separate from the Commerce Division and appoint a textile minister who would resolve major issues of the sector. The federal government recently approved a recommendation of Adviser to Prime Minister on Restructuring and Austerity Dr Ishrat Husain to merge the commerce ministry with the textile division and rename it Ministry of Commerce and Textiles. Atlanta Newspaper Demands ‘Richard Jewell’ Add Disclaimer Over “Reckless” Portrayal
The Atlanta Journal Constitution, now represented by Hollywood attorney Martin Singer, says the Clint Eastwood film "falsely portrays" the paper and its personnel as "extraordinarily reckless." The Atlanta Journal Constitution is asking that a disclaimer be added to Clint Eastwood's Richard Jewell, out Dec. 13., stating that the events portrayed in the film are not wholly accurate and that the filmmakers took dramatic license when constructing the narrative. The main concern is with the portrayal of journalist Kathy Scruggs, who broke the news that Jewell (played by BlackKklansman actor Paul Walter Hauser) was a suspect in the Centennial Olympic Park bombing on July 27, 1996. The film implies that the journalist traded sexual favors for information about the FBI investigation. "The Richard Jewell film falsely portrays the AJC and its personnel as extraordinarily reckless, using unprofessional and highly inappropriate reporting methods, and engaging in constitutional malice by … [Read more...] about Atlanta Newspaper Demands ‘Richard Jewell’ Add Disclaimer Over “Reckless” Portrayal
Atlanta Paper Demands ‘Richard Jewell’ Disclaimer Over Depiction of Olympic Bombing Coverage
The Atlanta Journal Constitution has accused Clint Eastwood’s upcoming film, Richard Jewell, of falsely portraying the paper and its coverage of the 1996 bombing at the Atlanta Olympics, Variety reports. The film tells the story of Jewell (played by Paul Walter Hauser), the security guard who discovered the pipe bomb at Centennial Olympic Park and became a prime suspect in the case. As an earlier trailer for the film suggested, Richard Jewell is critical of how the FBI handled its investigation of Jewell, as well as how the Atlanta Journal Constitution, and its reporter Kathy Scruggs, covered the story. In its letter, the AJC — represented by attorney Martin Singer — demanded that Eastwood, screenwriter Billy Ray, Vanity Fair writer Marie Brenner and the film’s studio, Warner Bros., issue a statement “acknowledging that some events [in the film] were imagined for dramatic purposes and artistic license and dramatization were used in the film’s … [Read more...] about Atlanta Paper Demands ‘Richard Jewell’ Disclaimer Over Depiction of Olympic Bombing Coverage
