NEW YORK (AP) — E-commerce giant Amazon scrapped plans to build a new headquarters in New York City, citing opposition from some state and local officials. Amazon has a market value of about $800 billion and is run by Jeff Bezos, the world’s richest man. The opposition partly stemmed from plans to give the company nearly $3 billion in tax incentives. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — It’s been a complicated few weeks for Amazon, what with its abrupt pulloutextortion claimsincreasing antitrust scrutiny in Europe For now, these events seem unlikely to pose much threat to Amazon’s brand or business. But they’re indicative of the mounting challenges the e-commerce giant faces as it grows ever larger and more dominant. New York (CNN Business)Walmart, Amazon and grocery chains like ShopRite hope to tap into a lucrative new market: Food stamp recipients who want to shop for groceries online. For the first time, the US Department of Agriculture has given the green light for recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, to use their benefits to buy groceries online and get them delivered to their homes, the agency said Thursday. The retailers are kicking off a two-year pilot in New York that will enable some of the state's 2.7 million SNAP recipients to use their benefits for online grocery orders. ShopRite and Amazon (AMZN) will service the New York City area, while Walmart (WMT) will cover upstate locations. The USDA said FreshDirect, Safeway, Hy-Vee and Dash's Market will join the New York pilot, and the test will eventually expand to other parts of New York, as well as Alabama, Iowa, Maryland, Nebraska, New Jersey, Oregon and Washington. At the company’s first Cross-border E-commerce Summit in HCM City on Wednesday, which attracted over 2,000 sellers, Amazon said it would organise more offline educational workshops and work closer with partners to drive awareness.
