Fireworks explode in HCM City to celebrate New Year 2015. — Photo phunutoday.vn Viet Nam News HÀ NỘI — No fireworks will be burnt in HCM City on New Year’s Eve, which falls on Saturday. The move came following a directive of the Political Bureau, and is aimed at utilising the money saved on poor and underprivileged households. 52 killed in traffic accidents ahead of New Year’s Day The Saigon Times Daily The scene of a serious traffic accident - PHOTO: VNA HCMC – The country has seen 84 traffic accidents over the last two days, ahead of New Year’s Day, killing 52 people and injuring 26 others, VietnamPlus news site reported, citing Nguyen Trong Thai, chief of the National Traffic Safety Committee. A report from the Office of the Ministry of Public Security said that 42 road accidents occurred on the first day of the holiday, December 29, claiming 27 lives and injuring 15 people, while 42 other traffic incidents occurred on December 30, resulting in 25 deaths and 11 injuries. While no rail and sea transport incidents were reported on the first day of the holiday, a total of 40 road crashes on the second day killed 24 people and injured 10 others, and two rail accidents left one dead and another injured on the same day, police said.
