MóngCái City police arrest seven Chinese nationals illegally entering Việt Nam to gamble. — Photo vov.vn Viet Nam News QUẢNG NINH — Móng Cái City police in the northern province of Quảng Ninh stopped seven Chinese nationals from illegally entering Việt Nam and moving to Cambodia to gamble, reported vov.vn online newspaper. The Chinese nationals were handed over to the police by a local border guard. According to the border guard, on March 15, functional forces of the joint-control station at Dân Tiến Port in Móng Cái City noticed seven Chinese nationals illegally entering the country through the border. They were travelling in a car with the registration number 14B-01732 along the Móng Cái-Hạ Long route. Viet Nam demands end to Chinese attacks on fishermen (19-01-2005) HA NOI — Viet Nam has demanded that China take measures to put an immediate end to attacks on Vietnamese fishermen. A foreign ministry representative handed a diplomatic note to the Chinese embassy in Ha Noi protesting the recent attack by Chinese on-duty ships, which killed and injured a number of Vietnamese fishermen. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also demanded that the Chinese investigate the case and hand out strict punishments to the killers. The ministry has instructed Vietnamese diplomatic missions in China to arrange with the Chinese side and visit the injured and detained fishermen as early as possible. The Vietnamese side has also called on the Joint Committee on Fisheries in the Bac Bo (Tonkin) Gulf to meet and promptly stabilise the situation in the two countries’ common fishing area. Chinese killing fishermen violates int’l law: Spokesman (21-01-2005) HA NOI — The recent killing of innocent Vietnamese fishermen by Chinese coast guards was a serious violation of international laws, Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Dung said in Ha Noi yesterday. The action also violated the Agreement on the Demarcation of the Tonkin Gulf, the Viet Nam-China Agreement on Fishing Co-operation in the Tonkin Gulf, and other agreements reached by Vietnamese and Chinese leaders. It also harmed the friendly feelings between the people of the two nations, the spokesman said. Police arrest human trafficking ring near Chinese border (19-05-2005) HA NOI — Police have arrested a group of men for duping women and selling them into prostitution to agents near the Chinese border in the north. About 40 women reportedly fell prey to Le Quoc Dung, 28, of Thanh Hoa Province and his accomplices. They were from various cities and provinces across Viet Nam, according to the police. The trafficking network was caught thanks to co-operation between the Vietnamese police and their Chinese counterparts, according to Cao Ngoc Oanh, deputy director of the General Department of Police. He also said the Chinese police returned 12 victims to police in the border province of Cao Bang, adding they were all assisted with rehabilitation. Investigations were continuing, he said.
