According to the proposal’s first phase from now until 2020, the city will increase parking fees, restrict parking for motorbikes and impose a toll on vehicles entering the city centre. HCM City proposes road, railway to Cát Lái

This is to avoid these vehicles from using urban roads for transporting goods and leading to traffic congestion. Previously, the government had approved a plan to establish a rail route to Cát Lái Port to transport goods. But the plan was abolished in 2013. Late last year, HCM City had once again suggested to the Ministry of Transport to re-consider the construction of railway lines into ports in the city, especially into Cát Lái Port, to ease traffic in those areas. Accordingly, the fare will rise from VNĐ5,000 to VNĐ6,000 on buses travelling a distance of less than 18km, and from VNĐ6,000 to VNĐ7,000 on routes extending beyond 18km. Students, however, will enjoy the universal discount fares of VNĐ2,000 on all public buses. Public Transport Management Centre Director Trần Chí Trung said the fare increase was “a necessary move”. “It will help balance the investment in new buses and cut the State budget spending for subsidies,” Trung said. The bridge project, which will be 4.5 km including approach roads, will be 60m wide with six motor vehicle lanes and two mixed lanes. The Cần Giờ Bridge will replace the Bình Khánh ferry and link Nhà Bè and Cần Giờ districts.
